Surfing around here it seems several have swapped the standard seat out for something else.
Not found much, if any, mention of what mountings were used.
The MR2 mounting holes are a bit odd. Did/do you get a universal (slider) mount and weld on drilled tabs; two inclined down at the front and one angled up at the rear tunnel side, or what how?
Thank you.
I think s2000 seats will be what you want.. Lighter and they look cool. Minimal modifying to fit... You'll just have to hunt for some.

FIA approved buckets would be lighter and not more expensive.
The issue though; the mounts would be the same.
I am ok with not reclining seats as this is a lót lighter but this means they must be on sliding runners.
The OEM seats are relatively not all thát heavy but still 67,4 lbs = 30.6 kg.
Depending on budget and how hard (literally) core you want to go, the saving is easily 10 kg. up to 20!!!
First thing first though; start with the base; the mountings :)
Taking the passenger seat out tomorrow and have a look, take the measurements.
But since I am by fááár not the first tackling this, best ask no!?

These guys do mounts if you don't want to make some.
Thank you.
Will be a bit cumbersome with sliding runners on top.
Would prefer to bolt the runners to the floor directly.
Lightest affordable seat found sofar 2.7 kilo non FIA.
Lightest not affordable 2.3 kilos FIA approved.
The plan was not to change seats as the OEM seat are relatively not heavy and furthermore it is centrally/low mounted weight.
Meanwhile been rather surprised about the difference weight loss makes in the MR2 so and the seats are one of the easiest large chunks that can be adressed.
Anyway, as stated; having a look with a ruler tomorrow.
Took the seats out.
No seatbelt light issue with the connecor unplugged.
The seat is indeed not thát heavy but here is weight to be shed. Since my seat are in very nice condition, the weight saving must be worthwhile though.
Went drawing/measuring.
None too complicated to mod a set of sliding runners for the passenger side and a fixed bracket for the drivers side.
Would be easiest if I could source the front agled/round mounting tab with locating pin from a pair of scrap seats.
More iffy is the wídth of my hip/bum versus the replacement bucket.
Took some measurments of that, the OEM seats and the car bucket.
