Title: Cause of the clatter from the rear? Pad clips.
Post by: mdw on May 13, 2019, 15:26
Ive just had a poke about the back of my 03  car to try  and find the cause of a clatter from mainly the back right side.   Cant see anything  obviously broken BUT only one spring  clip at top of each brake pad both sides  of each caliper.  Is that correct?  In the pics  of the pad retaining  kits it show 8 parts for the rear, with clips top and bottom of each pad and the bottom notch without a clip would let the pad shunt 4-5mm.

You're correct.  Clips at both ends of both pads.  If you clean up the pad slots in the carrier and caliper with a square file to get all the crud out, they'll go together sweet.

Many thanks. fitted the new clips and clatter gone.    There were no lower clips on either side of each rear caliper. Guess the PO or garage lost one side and shared the rest out.   Gradually working my way through past bodges.
