I know tyres have been discussed previously many times, but i've not managed to find the answer i'm looking for.
Car currently has Toyo T1R's and I really don't like them, i've no confidence in the way they fell when pushing on a little.
So been looking at options in the standard sizes of 205/50/15 rear and 185/55/15 front.
Options are:
Ad08R - but probably a little too sticky for a 140bhp car, and as they're changing to the newer AD08RS, availability isn't great and i've had quotes of £390+ for a single rear tyre.
Hankook Prime 3 K125 - more of a touring tyre, with few reviews and hit and miss test reviews, possibly soft again due to being a touring tyre
Falken ZE914 - As above really, but test reviews seem a little worse than the k125
Then i could switch to a 195/50/15 front tyre, as this gives a few more options - I could then use Hankook V12 evo 2 k120, which get pretty good reviews and decent test reviews. Its more of a UHP tyre rather than a touring tyre too. But i'm a little concerned about upping the front tyre size on a 6J rim

May I suggest taking a look at Nankang NS20? I love mine. Great grip in all weather and no bump steer.
You should be able to get a full set of AD08R for 400 quid.
The ´only´ 140 bhp are irrelevant when braking and cornering.
The caveat is whether you actually will úse the cornering grip. The shorter braking distance however is néver a bad thing.
Imo money spent on a better tyre is the best value for money there is on a car; they set the limits as it is the contact with the road.
What petrus said.
390 one tyre. Either massive misunderstanding or having your pants down.
Offer still stands if you want to meet up.
I'm on the ad08r.
I'm in Leicester the near side for nottingham
Could have put this in one post.
Forward planning eh!
I was happy with the falkens in FL sizes.
Certainly shift the water.

That's not what I read when deciding on them last year, & a friend checking the info came to the same conclusion. They come with reinforced sidewalls. Original loading for a pfl was 82, I believe. The Prime 3 come in 86, & maybe 90? Not sure. Anytime an offer comes up on ebay, they shift quickly.
Load index 82 = 475kg spec
Load index 86 = 530kg over
Load index 90 = 600kg way over

I used Nankang NS-2R previously on my Clio 182, and loved them on track. So would consider Nankang branded tyres again. I'll take a look at these, but from memory i couldn't find that many good test results for them.
I must admit though, i'm finding it difficult to conclude anything form the tyre testing results online as the results seem to change massively from one test to the other, even when taking into account the tyre size being tested and vehicles used, etc.

I agree - i fitted Pilot sport 4 tyres to my Wife's CMax because i wanted it to be as safe as possible.
I wouldn't use anything other than AD08R on my clio, I've used them for a few years now and really love the grip and feel on that car. I actually ditched a set of pilot sport 3's over the winter i was using on a spare set of wheels because the car felt horrid. New set of AD08R's on my best wheels and the car was great again.
The issue is they're not easy to get hold off, and many of the main tyre suppliers local either have stopped listing them or are offering them for £390 per tyre in 205/50/15. I can source a set for £400 online and pay approx £50-60 for fitting, but i don't really want to spend more than around £300 currently. 6-7 months ago kwikfit were selling a full set of 4 AD08R in 195/50/15 for £210 fitted, and you could regularly pick them up on ebay for the same price at that point in time
Also i don't think the car needs that level of grip for the driving i'm doing. It's mainly commuting and a few spirited drives (the clio is my fun car really). I'd also like to be able to side the car a little when i want and the extra grip of the AD08R, i think might make that more difficult for me at this point (may be wrong - but I've always had front wheel drive cars, so little experience of drifting/siding with control)

Again, i really appreciate the offer, but it's quite difficult for me to get out on my own due to work and family commitments.
I've also got a set of AD08R on my clio that i can throw on to test out. But they 195/50/15 all round, so may not work out the best. I also didn't realise the nuts wouldn't work when i attempted to test fit them recently. I've ordered a set of nuts now. So may try it out at some point.

I just looked again at these and realised that the rear 205/50/15 size isn't listed.

I've seen this mentioned several times to be honest. My main worry is having a soft side wall tyre as this is the main reason for ditching the toyo's.

Honestly, i've not looked at loading index. What impact would having over spec'ed loadings? stiffer/ stronger sidewalls?
Screen grab from my local tyre place. These guys are usually the cheapest when i've had to buy tyres previously. Think i paid about £140 for 2 AD08R's in 195/50/15 about 3 months ago

They wouldn't come top in a dry handling test if they had soft sidewalls.
I don't know enough about Load Index to comment.
The Hankook Prime 3 K125, comes in:
185/55/ R15 86V XL TL
205/50 R15 86V TL
Can pick them up from Camskills for 244 delivered. So should be £300 fitted.
I'm leaning towards these presently, just because reviews seem more favourable and they're available in standard sizes with matching loadings and speed, etc
I'm pretty confident overall grip will be much better with these, as my past experience of T1R on the clio is that pretty much any other decent branded tyre is better.
Would be good to hear from people who have switched from T1R's to the K125, before i buy though
If I had only 15" wheels I probably would have bought AD08's. But the price of the 16" rears was stupid.
The year before I'd bought Falkens for an '06 that had original tyres on it, & they were confidence-inspiring in the wet after a nasty experience I'd had. But last year the 16" were not available in the new Ecorun, so I had to look for something different. And for the money, the K125 were a no-brainer.

I've also been looking at new tyres but I'm facelift sizes. I was going to go AD08 but the prices have shot up, maybe due to limited stock - even though everyone is quoting as having stock.
@Carolyn (https://www.mr2roc.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=22891) - are you running 195 at the front as i cant see NS20 in 185 sizes?
Yes. 215 rear 195 front.

Thanks I'll add them to my options. I take it they aren't in the same league as AD08 though as everyone would be running them!
Its funny how Toyo T1R's are like Marmite...some love them & some hate them. I think it's all down to how you drive the car...those that hate them tend to love Advan AD08's, great for hard driving and grip but a tad expensive. Those who love them, like me have a tyre that are good value for money, give a comfortable ride & whilst certainly not a track tyre, they are fine for what I want from a road tyre.
My T1R's are now getting a bit long in the tooth so need to be changed. I did consider AD08's but I've decided it would be a waste to spend a lump of money on tyres that only do 1500 miles a year max for general road & motorway use. I'm going for the new Toyo TR1 if I can find someone that stocks the 225/45 16...Toyo do make them apparently. The fronts are readily available & I'll probably go for 195/55 15 which is the size I've currently got fitted.
On a totally unscientific and personal choice reason, I also just like the look of the tread pattern...lol ;) In case you hadn't worked out...mines a facelift. :)

I don't know about that. They certainly out perform AD08 in cold and wet. People who've tried my car were impressed....
Very predictable handling, never had the car step out on me.
Mostly, they've just been ignored so far.

Just bought two rear AD08Rs.. Wondering whether to sell and get a full set of Nankangs
Edit: hmm... I can indeed get all 4 corners for exactly the same price as two rear AD08Rs...

Just not required. All things being equal. I found the ride suffered. Jiggly. Dropped a pound or two from stock to offset.

Definitely on my list now then. Unless anything changes, I'm sure it will be time rather than miles before I have to change them and can't justify spending £400 on tyres when I can get just as good for half that!

It's a shame Bridgestone don't make the OEM tyres anymore, they suit the car well IMO.

I look forward to how the Nankang compare.
