Title: Valuation Help - Silver 31,000 miles
Post by: crankshaft on July 16, 2019, 11:29
Hello all;

First post in many years, and sadly it is to sell my MR2 which I have owned for 16 years.

My health is not so good, and it is no longer comfortable for me to drive, so it's time for us to part company.

I am looking for suggestions on it's valuation, the key selling points are that it's only 31000 miles, garaged 11 months of the year and body and undercarriage are rust free except for a few spots.

Here's the details that I will likely use in the advert:

=== DETAILS ===
2001 Silver MR2 SMT, Aircon, Not an Import.

2 owners only, current owner for the last 16 years, only reason for selling is that it's no longer comfortable for me to drive, due to age and back problems.

Less than 31,000 miles and a full MOT history to prove it.

Garaged 11 months of the year, only driven in the summer.

Rust-free except for a few minor spots on the undercarriage which are surface rust only and easily treated.

Roof is in excellent condition with no tears, front disks & callipers have been replaced.

Black leather interior, all leather is still in good condition and no tears.

Slight bubbling on front wheels, Pre-cats removed at roughly 12K, Dual TTE Exhaust, Uni-Chipped & Tuned by Millway Coachworks @151 BHP, Alpine head unit & Sub-Woofer, Focal Amplifier & Speakers, Toyo Proxes.
===========

I have a cherished number on it, which I will be retaining.

Any suggestions on it's potential gratefully received  :)

Many Thanks

Pete

Difficult one.
Very low mileage and it's an SMT which is rare.

What do you mean by chipped? It has some sort of piggyback ECU? Must be as you can't chip tune a 1zz ECU they've never been broken.

After a quick scan of autotrader try 5k.

As the spelling and grammar police (sorry, but you did ask....)

There's a "wich" in there. Callipers is a double L. And the tyres are Proxes.

Otherwise, more importantly, how do you get it through an MOT de-catted? If not emissions, the new rules talk about noise (although ridiculously, it's incredibly subjective).
I'd like to think mine (73k, doesn't burn oil, always walked the emissions previously) would have been able to get through with a 100 cell sports cat, but it didn't.

@1979scotte - thanks, it's uni-chipped, just corrected that, would you suggest to just put it on auto-trader or just list it here ? - obviously autotrader has wider coverage, but I would like it to go to a good home, which is more likely to happen here.

@The Other Stu - thanks corrected the spelling, it has always breezed through the MOT, and it's the pre-cats that were removed, not the main ones, just corrected that too.

Also, just checked and it was pre-de-catted at 12K not 20K, same time as TTE exhaust was fitted.

I would advertise here if looking for a good home. I'm not sure of the market for SMT it's not my cup of tea. Advertising here comes with the caveat that we have a lot of tight northerners and Dutch people that don't like paying proper money ;p

Autotrader eBay or Facebook you will fetch more money IMHO. I would remove unichip if selling off forum and sell as a standard car.

@The Other Stu youre being silly not enough sleep after scout camp he obviously ment pre cat.

You'd think so, but someone was arguing on FB the other day that they'd entirely decatted the exhaust system (including precats) and passed the MOT every year.

That is equally redonkulous as you will struggle to pass MOT even with a 100 cel cat let alone zilch.
I'm so happy not being on Facebook friends and family filter out all the idiots for me I just see the interesting bits.

I wasn't far off with the 100 cel cat. Close, but no cigar :(
