My new to me "2" is referred to, as in the heading "Red Roadster Convertible". What is the Red indicating? [the car is silver in colour]
The "Red Edition" was a special edition variant of the MR2 (and celica) with red leather interior trim and roof. Should come up on the insurance database as this but doesnt refer to the colour of the car. I think they were available on sable or silvers only.
The Red special edition was only available in Sable.
My old Black 2 had Red on the V5 and came up as Red on insurance searches even though it was not a special edition.
Maybe some with red seats got the tag inadvertently?
Hi. I currently have my Red edition up for sale and a potential buyer has questioned my describing the roof as mohair, claiming that the standard was vinyl. I bought the car - alas only a few months ago - and was told by the seller that the roof was mohair. Does anyone know whether the standard roof on a 2005 Red edition was mohair or vinyl? I've always assumed that mohair was one of the defining features of a Red. And I also assumed that vinyl roofs would have a harder and possibly shinier finish. Any clues? Red editions came with the fabric roof as standard as far as I was aware. Just be wary of describing it as "Mohair" though, it's a nitpicking point but it's not genuine Mohair but a synthetic version.(unless yours has had £1500 worth of roof put on it at some point 🤓).
Red editions come with the same roof as a standard roadster just in red.

To be honest, if it's got a fabric roof already then you could pretty much use it as a selling point.
They're easier to operate, better in cold weather than the vinyl and usually by that age the vinyls are on their last legs anyway.
Not sure I have the definitive answer but as far as I know, the only roofs ever done by Toyota were all vinyl.
The vinyl ones have a vinyl, plasticky top layer with much more texture than fabric/mohair.
I had my red vinyl one on my red edition changed to a red fabric one. The difference between a vinyl and a fabric is clearly obvious if you have the two side by side. Not sure I could tell the difference between a mohair and fabric so easily but the mohair is much more expensive than the fabric.
Sounds like yours has been changed (as many have now) but I would see that as a good thing personally unless you were after a completely unmolested example?
Ah, ok, that's reassuring. The one I have doesn't feel at all plasticky - I'd say it was more like a decent heavy tent canvas. I'll consider it to be fabric. Thanks to all respondents.

Shame you're selling it after so little time, these little cars give you loads of fun at a bargain price.
There was a separate sales brochure for Red Edition cars (MR2 and Celica). Don't know if it's online anywhere? Gets the silver trim around the heater controls as well rather than standard black.
