Guys - I've seen this bantered back and forth a bit about the rear nappy - that you can easily see from behind - which some of the later cars don't have, but am I correct in thinking that the "mid" nappy - the one that blocks access to the oil filter is necessary to stop too much winter crud getting into the engine bay?
I figure I should probably get mine installed before we get into gritting season - I'm about to drop £120 on a FL nappy from MR2Ben and I thought I'd ask here first!
Wow that's an expensive bit of plastic! Worth checking with breakers first? (Though I concede they won't be in as good condition and probably come without plastic clips etc). Also Paul TCB on here might be worth checking. Mr2-ben are known for being on the expensive side.
I would say definitely worth having on if driving in grit, otherwise most here seem to advocate it being fine without.
I run with my nappy on, though it's currently off for cleaning and because I just did an oil change. They are a pain to remove/replace and turn a small job into a longer one. I'll put mine back on over the next few days when I've cleaned it. I don't like the look of the very rear one from behind though.

My previous MR2 was a 2007, so never had the rear one (ever - as far as I can tell).
The replacement car has neither... so I think I need to get that sorted.
The undercar plastic has four principle functions:
- creating a flat as possible underside, limiting lift and drag
- containing noise; reducing noise emission
- keeping the moist/dirt out
- hiding the catalityc convertor from view
I have long resisted, but Tuesday took the rear nappy off because I fitted a decat mid pipe so it needs not hide anything anymore and noise reduction has become a non isuue.
Also it collects quite a bit of plant material on my drive.
The drag I want to try lower by fitting sort of a diffuser instead.
I observed that the rear exhaust set up is a lót cooler now and that received comments that the nappy delete is benificial in that too.
Bottom line is that it does have several function and that yoú decide.
The swan song model both in Japan and UK did not have the nappy:
I removed mine mid July when I changed my exhaust to twin exit as it would have needed to be adapted to be refitted. Can't say I have noticed any problems since removing it but I do think it looks better without it and having the twin exit has transformed the look.
I sold my nappy for £35 on eBay so might be worth looking on there if you do want a replacement.
