Title: Feeling rich??
Post by: jvanzyl on January 17, 2020, 10:47
So I've been eyeballing a guy who's actually out near Windsor who's taken to breaking a few MR2's and putting stuff on gumtree. He's just ventured onto eBay with an amazing find!

It's unfortunate that this is likely the kit that was off a Silver MR2 that sold about Q3 last year.. however it's there now if anyone is feeling like their Christmas money is burning a hole in their pocket..

The hilarious thing is he's also got a TTE Ducktail for £275!!  :o

The below link is for a silver TRD stage 2 kit, front bumper with rainbows (I think) plus skirts which are slightly damanaged and the rear lip. I've not seen a full kit for sale ever if I'm honest.

His prices are a bit steep but he has some nice items.

On the side note I have a genuine ducktail that sits at home. Ill try to attach it once the weather is better. I think it foes close to nothing and just improves the car visually.

Im sure your wing does way more. Duck tail on our rear end works but not very much, the gain is marginal. I think ill follow the soft thing from the other thread and will go with Koni but not MeisterRs.

I could be wrong, at least it looks way better with it, especially in black :D

He has broken a rare car with a desirable kit.

I'm looking for a ducktail but wouldn't ever pay that sort of money.

You can't blame him for trying I guess.

Telling you, you áre wrong.
- I had the rubber lip at the end of the rear deck first; ´same´ as the ducktail but way smaller. It was definitely noticable.
- On the Audi TT the ducktail saved lives. The Spyder does not have the same issue as a problem but the effect is nevertheless positively there.
- The big wing has a different effect and the lip now no longer has it´s former effect but nów increases the wing efficiency; it stíll is effective.

Anything like the lip or ducktail is nót a wing or for downforce: It deminishes turbulence behind the rounded bum by creating a ´tear off edge´ and as such decreases instability caused by the turbulence. It has significantly more effect than the size suggests.

Put the kit on a different car and you´ve corrected it.

I'd love to correct it... but it's a bit too much money for me!

For a complete TTE kit it´s not that much and if I´d be into kits I´d make him a lower offer.

The MR2 Spyder is rápidly getting a more unsusual car and special bits even more so. I think it will be money well spent if  you like the look.

@500 quids with no shipping is a lot for my bank account too, not to mention that Im in the process of turboing and going with quality parts add up rly quickly. Other than that I like the front bumper and would use it for sure.

I don´t líke kits and am not in the UK, otherwise I would be on the phone. For anyone in a strict EU country it would be fat thumbs up as being a Toyoto piece it would get approved.

Quote from: mr2noob on January 17, 2020, 18:35So, comparing the ducktail to your current setup, which is better? If you had both ducktail and the big wing what would the final effect be like (except for the car looking weird)?

The wing overshadows, literally too, any effect a boot lid thing has. It does something entirely different and the boot lip´s effect gets lost so there is no comparison between the two.

As to the effect of a small lip and a bigger one (the duck tail) with the wing, that is very similar but the wing must be mounted ending pretty much vertically above the lip end.
As the duck tail is larger, the wing needs be further back.
Apart from that the effect is similar with the bigger lip having more effect but not by as much as the size diference. Remember that the effect is speeding up the flow under the wing for all of its length = more airfoil effect.
This why the GT300 MR-S and the Spirit one all had this.

And the looks, well that is in the eye of the beholder. Seen some fotos of the wing colour matched and with duck tail that looked quite nice to mé.
