I like to have music on the go so I'm trying this Dab/Bluetooth adapter jobby.
Also, put some better number plate surrounds on. Need to get better plates next 😳
Just updating but the Bluetooth/dab adapter isn't much use in that there's a fair bit "hissing" when there are quiet parts such as between songs, or during news etc.
I'm trying a pure highway 600 next, more expensive but hopefully quality is better too.
Cheers
An alternative sound system is the exhaust ;D
I took it all out; áll; speakers and antenna included. Enjoy the exhaust note of good quality 8)
I bought an all-singing-and-dancing Sony Carplay unit, only regret was not getting the DAB version of it, but it was £300 vs £200 and I figured I'd use Apple Music / Spotify / Exhaust sound more :D
I really do miss DAB in there though especially after being in my Golf which has it.
I bought the Pioneer X8700-DAB which seemed about as fully featured as you could get for single DIN, and with a reasonable non-calculator display too (though no better than a Pioneer I had nearly 15 years ago!)
Must say I struggle a bit for reception around the coast (using a window stick on aerial) though it's not like my Mini is much better. Seems better around town/Gosforth.
My ´argument´ is that the base level of noise in the Spyder renders ány dynamics/quality in music reproduction irrelevant.
Hi, thanks for the replies.
The dab signal has been ok,around town, and so on no issues.
The Bluetooth streams no problems too.
But it's the annoying hissing sound, to me it sounds like the device is too quiet so you have to have the head unit turned up louder to compensate.
There's also the occasional bit of interference, the unit sends out an FM signal that you tube the head unit to. Currently 87.7 you can change that however.
I'll update again when I try the other one.
I was hoping to keep the car original as possible, so hopefully no can keep the original head unit in.
Cheers.
Just turn it up to 11....
Note to self: Do not visit mr2noob :o ;)
Quote from: mr2noob on February 11, 2020, 11:54Well, with the level of noise in your Spyder (thinking back on your thread and the sound clip you uploaded) it makes even trying to think at high revs irrelevant. :P
If I was running setup like yours here, not only would the police stop me and impound my car and bill me with thousands of euro of fines, they'd probably also first beat me up and then shoot me as menace to society. xD
Whereas I get appreciation daíly, applauded even :-)
Last weekend went out with the mayor of a town in the next county. She lóved it. Shawl over the hair, loose end swirling she though classic films,
like Ava Gardner, she observed.
Oh, and:
´I always brake before that corner. From 50 km/h less´ and burst out laughing.
Point is MrNoob that I as a rule respect speed limits. On most roads and at most times there will be plenty smirks about that pensioner in his sports car pottering about with a ´girl´.

From previous days of using an iTrip I think a certain level of hiss is unavoidable - even at the lowest end of the FM band you're not very far away from Radio 2. If the device has a line out you could see if there's some kind of adaptor cable available for the stock head unit, I believe a CD changer used to be available so it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

@garpat32 Have a look at this:

Thanks, I'll have a read of the other thread.
I know it's nowt big, I'm just being picky. 🤭🤭

Wait until you decide to rip it all out and build your own centre console...

Really?
As the rule yes.
Point is case: only óne fine (for drifting) in 20 years here.
Perspective: the EU organisation for traffic safety has rapped the DGT on the knuckles for ecessive use of speeds traps with no traffic safety goal.
Ok, just updating again.
I got the Pure Highway, more expensive and better unit etc. However, still same hissing and interference.
So, I'm thinking it maybe the car/aerial etc. Maybe a suppressor or something is needed.
Next step I'm thinking of just biting the bullet and getting a new head unit. 🙄

If yiu are not on the radio, the aerial should not be the source of the hissing. To make sure however you can unclip the connector and switch the whole thing off, feed included. This way you eliminate the wind noise too. I found it a horror; tthought of putting an on/off switch in the line so it would only go up if I wanted radio but decided it was not worth the hassle so OUT it went.
If you stíll have the hiss it is either interference with car electronics or the base noise of the head unit.
Tbh I am surprised as when I had mine in , I was rather pleased with the quality of the OEM unit.
Yes, hiss on tape but that was the tápe recording quality.
CD was quite ok. Mind the back ground noise of the car is such that classical music is out of the question imo. Not because of the base level of white noise but of the car noise. To mé it seems a bit odd to want high quality sound in a cabrio but hey, I have taken my out so I am a heathen in this respect.
Completely understand mate, it's not that I want it to be high quality, I just stuff like the hiss on quiet sections and the interference drives me mad. Ha.
Also, it has to be via radio therefore ariel up and it uses FM frequency to connect to the head unit.
The radio itself sound is ok, FM and AM I will try a CD later.
Actually thinking about it more, both devices have to use the 12v accessories adapter for usb power, so maybe it's that where interference is from. 🤔🤔🤔

Sound reasoning that!
Look on the cylinder head cover, at the end where the coil pack link assembly screws down to the head cover. There should be a small suppresor fitted to the same mounting point, it's probably half inch square.
It's not unknown for them to be disconnected or badly earthed or even had the mount snapped.
It's not the best picture but gives an idea.
