Picked one up yesterday, the hard wire kit is available for an extra £7.50. The hardwire kit comes with two fuse taps and two 2A mini blade fuses, the only extra needed is a crimp connector for the earth wire.
Interestingly this uses a proprietary 12v connector, meaning no need for a 12v to 5v USB stepdown/converter, and hopefully, less chance of DAB/ratio interference.

Fitted mine up yesterday, ACC has gone into the cigarette lighter fuse, and the permanent has gone into the 'Dome' light fuse.

Verdict on quality so far?
Got my first run out this evening so I'll grab the footage later.
27fps which is a little weird.
Supposedly it's a Halfords specific version of the 410 model, which is offered as a VW commercial retrofit and there's a small handful of footage videos online.
The footage seems better than my YI in places, particularly being able to make out reg plates on freeze frames, but the sharpness seems to be lacking in differentiating background images. That said, the 27fps is probably going to make that more difficult.
Doesn't seem to suffer with the car's vibrations (scuttle shake?) as much as the old one did either.
Wouldn't say it was worth more than £40 though.
Bear in mind YouTube makes the quality (even) worse. It'll certainly do for now if it means my DAB works.
Edit: doesn't look like you can turn off the speed recording. That's not good
@Bossworld My dash cam had options of two mounting bases, one with gps one without. The gps facility records speed, without the gps switched on it just records as video. Maybe your camera works in a similar fashion and if you can stop the gps function you will stop the speed recording.
Yea ... blanking out the speed showing on the recording numerically is one thing, but actually turning off GPS is the only thing that stops it "recording speed".
My garmin which I have in my other car, you can easily turn off the speed being shown (I did), but once you import videos into a dashcam app, your speed is calculated based on gps, and it's far more accurate than the speedo!
Even without gps and the speed being shown on the recording, my understanding is it's actually pretty easy to work out your speed. That said, I can totally understand not wanting to have it there in black and white.
This one is just a regular 'dumb' mount so the wizardy must be in the device. I know the type you mean though.
Unfortunately there's no GPS settings in the menu one way or t'other.
I'm not overly worried but I hate the idea that your evidence could be compromised in the event of a crash because you were recorded as being 1 or 2mph over the limit. I also don't know the accuracy of the GPS in the device itself but yes you're right with regards your trajectory being buried in the metadata for full calculation
Fully take on board other methods are available (time Vs street lamp posts as an example).
