Title: MOT Pass with minor defects
Post by: AndPow68 on March 9, 2020, 15:00
Hi

My 06 Roadster has another year on the road (157K+ Miles) but with the following minor advisories requiring repair as soon as possible:

- Rear rear o/s and n/s anti roll bar linkage ball joints dust covers severely deteriorated

- Front o/s and n/s suspension arm ball joint dust covers severely deteriorated

Could someone recommend a reliable online competitive supplier and help me with relevant parts/numbers.

As an advisory they have also picked up rear o/s and n/s inner sill chassis corrosion. Any advice on effective underbody treatments would be greatly appreciated. I be looking at treating and sealing the entire underbody.

Many thanks

Andrew

The good thing is that the comments are all advisories so you have some breathing space.
I can't help with part numbers but I'm pretty sure someone will be along soon and able to advise.
As for the corrosion, I've not read about this in the sills, typically in the rear cross member. As for rust treatment I chose Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 for the inside of the rear cross member. They do a range of  compatible products  for rust treatment and protection:

Many thanks for your quick reply and the link. I too used dynax S50 when I replaced my corroded rear subframe but like you I've not heard of the rear chassis sills being affected. Thanks again.

Opinions differ on here as to whether to underseal or paint.  No expert by any means... but I would use a wire brush or similar & get rid of the worst of the rust & paint it.  I've recent experience of using POR15.

It's bloomin' expensive, but reacts with rust & gives a very tough finish. I personally think Hammerite is rubbish in comparison.  It also requires care because it dries-up. So you need smaller containers to put it in after using some of the tin. Worth the hassle though, I think. It can be bought as a set of small tins- the drying reason is why.

No longer a fan of Hammerite. I found it does not dry, via can and aerosol possibly a batch thing but these events were years apart.
After having used Rust-Oleum combi colour on our garden railings, I will be trying this on parts of my 2.

Last year I sprayed some bits using alternate coats of black & sliver, so that I could see any bits I'd missed. You'd expect them to compatible, but the drying time was nothing like advertised...

I convinced Hammerite to give me a refund.

Thanks for the feedback all. I'll look into the products mentioned above and available online. I'll provide an update when it's done.
