Hey folks now is obviously the time to be trying to buy one of these ::) But I want to get a decent mask to prevent fumes (due to painting) and also prevent dust (due to heavy home sanding/diy)..
I was thinking one of those 3M jobs with the interchangeable filters... anyone go any recommendations or do's/don'ts?
As I wear specs I am aware that a mask needs a "vent" for exhaling otherwise the specs mist up.
I would think that a mask for paint vapour could differ from a mask for dust.
Dust can best be tackled at source, I mentioned recently * Mirka abrasive, a mesh type abrasive that is very hard wearing and makes sanding virtually dust free when used with a dust extractor system or domestic Hoover/ Henry/ Dyson etc. cleaner.
You would then be looking for a specific vapour mask for your painting and of course the mask would not be contaminated with any dust from sanding.

Thanks for that.. I've a plan to try and vent a significant amount of the dust (I'm sanding off this ridiculous rough plastering finish in a bathroom) via a pipe attached to the belt sander, but there is still so much dust I literally couldnt see 30cm in front of me within 15mins of sanding.
I've gone ahead and orderd the following from Arco:
111600 3M 6000 Half-Face Respirator Mask Medium
1
Each £16.84 - -
119600 3M 501 Filter Retainers (Pack of Two)
1
Pack £3.97 - -
112100 3M 6051 A1 Organic Vapour Gas Filters (Pack of Two)
1
Pack £10.23 - -
119400 3M 5911 P1 R Particulate Filters (Box of 30)
1
Box £36.41 - -
Should hopefully see me through for a while - my holding my breath attempts during painting will hopefully no longer be required!
I use the Gerson mask for painting with renewable filters, they are very good, you cannot even smell the paint with them on, used by many painters

@jvanzyl ,
As I mentioned the Mirka product virtually eliminates dust- it is available in various formats for hand or power sanding, does not clog like abrasive paper so is very economical and is at a price comparable to just your mask filters.
This is what I use

I liked the look of that one- couldn't get click and collect anywhere near me for most products..

I like the idea of this- didn't seem to have belt sanding though? Don't know if I missed it..

@jvanzylHere you are John. This supplier is where I got my (hand sanding) sheets, I use 80 grit for most diy) holder and hose from, but I've linked to a belt sander product.

PS. I have used the the Abranet on Artex ceiling perimeter when needing to remove this to fit Gyproc coving .I removed the bulk of this with a wall paper scraper fitted with a 100mm craft knife and used the Abranet pad system to finish off.
