Title: Front Brake Discs
Post by: Anonymous on April 20, 2005, 18:35
Just took my 2001 2 for an MOT due to the DVLA not changing the one from Nov when I changed registration number.  Guess what it failed due to excessive pitting of f/o/s inner disc.  Went straight to Toyota and got the expected reply "not covered under warranty".  It also turned out that according to T I didn't have any warranty, Administration Error.  Got really pi**ed off with them and left.  Later got a call from th Customer Annoyance Manager apologising for my problems and what did I expect for having a car with alloys?  After a lot of flannel he started to say that as a gesture of goodwill they would be prepared to give me discount on parts and labour.  I told him thanks but no thanks as I had already ordered replacements from Speedways and would obviously pay more with discount from them.  How come they can decide on the cause of a problem without even looking at the disc?  I will take it to them when it is changed and see if their ESP worked.    s:flame: :flame: s:flame:    Rant over.
Question for you now is Will I need any special tools for the job?
Title: nope

Nothing special required really, you may need an impact driver (a powerful screwdiver where you hit with a hammer to un-do) to un-do the grub screws which hold the discs to the hubs.

Other than than just typical spanners 17mm / 19mm and a socket set pref 1/2 drive.

Just go for it and if you get stuck we are all here to help    s:) :) s:)

These guys on here are very handy as i found out the other week when my 2 sounded like a tank!

There are no grub screws on our discs, they are just held on with the pressure of the alloy and caliper

Changed the discs last night, both were shagged.   There are in fact surface lumps out of one.  I will take these into MrT on Tuesday and see what they have to say

It is a very easy job and only took an hour and a half to do it all.  Callipers are working fine no seizing of anything.

Received the amended original MOT from DVLA this morning so I can go ahead and tax it b4 the holiday.  s:lol:  s:lol:

Well took the evidence into MrT today and pointed out the fact that no one had bothered to look at the problem.  Got the service manager and customer services manager to look at the discs and guess what?  It was claimable.  Now they have to give me credit for the parts I have already fitted and we'll  have to negotiate on the labour charge.  Result could be free or very cheap TTE lowering springs coming my way.  It also passed the MOT again today.  s:lol:  s:lol:

Got a call today from MrT regards my claim, they have agreed to £90 for the discs and another £48 for labour.  So I now have a £148 voucher in the post.  So next purchase will be lowering springs.
Then I will think about the new alloys as per Markiii and others suggestions  s:lol:  s:lol:

Good decision; lowering not only improves handling but makes the car look so much better in my opinion  s:wink:  s:wink:
