Title: Air con
Post by: Hamezi on July 24, 2020, 18:40
I have a late Sable red. No air con unfortunately. How difficult /easy is it to retro fit?

Thanks!

Difficult. Possibly as difficult as it gets.

Not much changed in seven years then.

Anyway air con in a convertible seems to me to be extra to requirements.

Err.. I believe @mulaz has just done this, and it didn't seem too much bother.
The only thing he has to do was get an A/C condenser from the US and get some custom piping made locally.

Crikey(insert expletive of your choice) - you've just gotta wonder what those Toyota people were thinking (being ironic)

Same here. Got it never used. Just ballast.

Wouldn't be without mine.
Defog in the winter months for a safe drive to work and not be cooked alive in the summer.

Had one without A/C vowed that the next one would be with.

I love my Aircon.  I often have it on with the top down in hot weather ( the summer equivalent of top down heater on in winter) or on rainy days in summer.

@mulaz  has not posted since January when it was still work in progress.

Sometimes you just know when a post is going to be a little controversial 😉

So, seemingly possible, just questionable as to necessity 😉

Depending on your circumstances, absolutely. Personal preference

Remember I considered taking it out because the gas needed replacing?
Put a link to a complete and detailed new zealand fitment guide in that thread. Not simple indeed.

Today 42 degrees C. in the shade here. Tomorrow expected to rise to 44. Coming week expected to remain >40.
Last night at 01.30 still 31 degrees in Antequera.
This is normal and next month, August can be a whole month like that. This goes a long way to explain why there are relatively few cabrios here and the local airport owner is driving his Merc SLK roof closed!

Going to Cadiz for a few days new week and we are taking the tin top as that puts us in the shade. Even so sunvisors down, airco on max, recirculation.

On the other hand; going to Antequera via the torcal; Boca del Asno 1283m.(yes over 4000 feet pffff), on the bicycle this afternoon/evening. Back tomorrow. Will be sucking my camelpak ánd bike bottle empty for sure. Looking forward to having dóne it, not to dóing it.

Mulaz finished his, we were back and forth on messenger a few weeks back as I had a couple of questions re mine and short cycling

It's quite a simple system (in terms of operation, not the retrofit process) but I spent probably nearly £400 all in fixing mine (Inc a brand new RHD condenser)

It seems thta once he found someone to make the pipework to fit the LHD codenser, it wasn't much of a problem

Looks tidy as well

Yep looks well, it's just that having access to knowledge and tools/regas if you have to keep testing.

I was reluctant to put £200's worth of condenser on my car (and annoyingly the Toyota sized specific O rings for the front were another fiver for the pair) but I figured it was hopefully a one-off expense. Worst case I don't imagine I'd lose much reselling it.
