Title: 03 Rear light lenses
Post by: Anonymous on April 22, 2005, 10:10
Has anyone fitted the o3 type rear light lenses to the old pre face lift light unit back'

I thought that you could only buy the rear light unit as one and they were around the £150.00 mark each

I phoned MRT today and they can supply just the plastic light lens covers
@ £16.50 each bargan if they fit the old backing's mesthink.
they carnt tell me if they do or dont.

at £16.50, just get one and try it, thats bugger all, only thing i would say is how do the physical points of light map out for, the post facelift lights have the indicator and reverse lights in a tube at the topish, arn't they in a different place on pre facelift cars? in which case your plan is scuppered and you'll need a whole new unit at £150

how about the front lights of a 2004 car.  Do they fit a 2000 car?

I ordered a set from Partsnet and fitted them this morning.

You get everything you need, but have to use three of the four bulbs form your current set. They provide the new indicator bulbs. Don't fit the lens until you are finished wiring it up.

The bulb holders only fit in certain positions, sop don't worry about working out which lamp does what.

If you just connect it up, the fog light will not work. All others are fine.

On the new 03 light cable you have to pull back the sleeving and you will see two wires going into one. One of them is Green/White and comes form the fog light. Cut this and tape the end. Refit the sleeving. You now have a loose wire (Green/White from the fog light.

On the cable from the engine bay, peel back some tape from the grey heat sleeving to expose the wires. Don't cut it as it is already split. Cut the yellow wire (Fog light) leave enough room to fit a block/connection.

Connect the Green/White wire to the yellow wire(s) and you're wired! Tape it all up again, fit the lens over the housing and fit the whole thing in place.

It all works and looks great, although my lens had a crack in it, so I need a replacement from Partsnet

I hope this helps others. I do have some piccies, but don't know how to post them.

Cheers, G.
