Hi everyone, hope all are well,
Just a quick one. Since changing the steering u/v and fluid the steering is unbelievablely light, ,, to me anyway. It's been parked mostly since I got it while I tinker but on a spirited drive I found it cornering into the kerb on bends,, I think they call it understeer and very very light, sort of 1 finger steering. Having never owned 1 before or even driven one, is this normal ? And do I just need to adapt ? Never had a car with such light steering before. I can't feel the road ! Just point n shoot and it goes but if it "went" I'm not too sure I would see it coming and end up in a ditch.🤔😞
It is quite light IMO, I've swapped to a 300mm wheel for a couple of reasons and that's improved the feel and feedback for me.
If it's feeling twitchy I'd be looking at alignment/bushes etc. but it sounds like you've possibly just taken up any play by renewing the U/J
@Mr2paul What pressures do you have in the tyres?
As observed it is véry light and soaks up a lot of feed back from the road.
Btw. it is not understeer nor understeer, just very light and quick turning.
It is after all a light car, mid engined ánd with rather a lot of assistance at slower going.
The p.a.s. is speed sensitive though and at highway speed the assistance is minimal.
Understeer is when the front has the tendency to tale a wider corner than the rear and oversteer is when the rear goes wider than the front.
The standard MR2 is slightly understeered when entering into a corner.
For the face lift model Toyota made it a little bit more so.

Hi, iv just checked n they are all at 30psi. Not sure what they spose to be as only seen vids of race cars etc. I'll get used to it.

That's why it feels light on the front! standard is 26 Front 32 Rear.

These cars are sensitive to pressure.
You should have the sticker in the glove box.

Will do. All reports say it's light, so it's just me that needs to adapt. Will change the pressures so thanks for the advise.
I have to say, I've now done a couple of journeys with the stock steering wheel refitted and while it makes for a more comfortable cruise (arms at least), I feel I've lost a lot of feedback.
I'm sure there's plenty on here who track these cars with the stock wheel but a smaller wheel feels so much more precise (IMO)

I have deleted the p.a.s. and fitted a Sparco San Remo.

At 6 foot 2 it was the single biggest transformation in drivability for me, I was getting horrendous knee pain before due to hyperextending to use the brakes.

What do you think of the material its made of? How nasty is it? See there is £50 premium if you want leather/suede.

It's absolutely fine, I've covered about 6k miles and its held up no problems at all. The only car I've ever had without a leather wheel was a brand new base spec Clio and it's certainly nicer than that.
You can get cheaper eBay special bosses but seeing as you've lost the airbag, I'm not sure I'd want to risk a non-collapsible one. Also no guarantee they'll cancel the indicators and you'll have to source your own airbag light resistor.
