Seeing as I ain't goin' nowhere right now, I put the car up on the ramp to give the front end an inspection and clean-up (and to push out a ding in my bumper).
I decided to do a proper job and take the arch liners out.
Glad I did. The cavities behind the liners (just in front of the door bottoms) were utterly jammed full of damp road grunge. I was shocked to see how much came out when I took the compressed air to them.
It's a rust issue waiting to happen..
I gave it all a good clean, then some zinc primer and then some silver wheel paint.
So, boys and girls, if your car is a 'keeper' it's a job well worth doing.

Nothing like a tinker and fettle. Or a fettle and tinker for that matter!

Same thing in front of the rear wheels, below the side vents.
I have thought of deleting (obviously) the liners but they do keep spray in the wheel wells and are a useful aero measure.
A while back i checked this and think I posted a warning too. To repeat, after blowing out the compost I was suprised to find as new metal. A blast with thinned down wax oil go into the nooks, but it will be a check to do on a yearly basis.
Which one of you is Tinker and which is Fettle? :)
David seems more of a Fettle
Presumably you can't remove the liners without breaking most of the fixing clips?

I didn't break any - but I reckon that was a tad lucky. Plus the liner was replaced about four years ago and I think I put new ones in at the time.
any idea of the size of clips,, think i may need some if and when i do this

Same as the frunk surround plastics.
If any use, rather than buy specific sized ones ( I already had 8mm but these too tight for frunk ) so I bought a selection of sizes n shapes to suit many jobs. We're only about £3/100 of eBay. I can post item if you get stuck but were easy to find.
