Title: Rear under engine nappy
Post by: Mr2paul on January 9, 2021, 03:01
Hi all, just to say IMO I would advise anyone to delete this nappy and let things be seen and breath. Luckily my car was owned by a enthusiast and hasn't got a nappy. Oil changes, gearbox oil, general maintenance is so easy without it,,,, so no excuses !!!
I found a full stainless zorst, near perfect X member so get rid of it and see what you have. Then you can deal with it moving forward.
I will treat and paint any minor areas on the chassis as I have the stuff anyway and it's not a big job.
I'm sure many have been neglected, but bodywork seems rustproof so time to keep these cracking cars on the road with easy fixes.
Any thoughts welcome.

I agree.
I have ran with and without. No noticeable difference.
It came off and stayed off, after it started to smoulder. Seeing smoke rising up was a squeaky bum moment.

It has it´s functions but one function; keeping the cat hot(ter)  has an obvious drawback.

I took it off for the fire hazard and have later also take the one in front of it off as well. But then I have taken a lót off  8)

Note that the lower engine mount has a bracket for the nappy and that bracket can come off too ofcourse  ;)

Think mine will be coming off soon. As said jobs are soooo much easier without but my main reason is i cant stand the sight of the rear one, looks so ugly!

It shields the none too nice looking cat from view so not sure whether the looks will improve. Imo you will need a sportscat or decat for that.
Oh and add a Tsurikawa and fun exhaust tip when at it ;-)

Please note that it is illegal to remove/mod any emission control device, thus cat, whether pre cat or other  O:-)

Apparently everything is ok as long as you claim to be an 'enthusiast'.
