I'm curious, how do your MR2s behave on the snow?
Being mid engined and rear wheel drive, I would imagine using an MR2 in the snow would be a disaster and asking for trouble but mine seems to be the complete opposite, even on summer tyres. I've owned mine for a few years now and it's literally the best car I've had for snow. It's never gotten stuck once where loads of other cars have. Think I even plowed some of the roads with my splitter 😂🤣
On my way back from work the other day, saw hundreds of cars getting stuck, crashing, sliding, unable to move and a lot of them were 4x4s and 4wd cars like Audi's as well? They were literally unable to drive any further yet I could happily overtake them and keep going even on steep hills. Are your MR2s the same? Wonder if its down to the lightness of them.
Yes, it may well be the lightness of the 2 and most of us 2 owners (not me anymore :'( ) know how to drive them in all weathers. My old Chilli got on very well in the snow, never had a problem really. I think a lot of it is people just DO NOT KNOW how to drive through snow and that includes only a few cms!
On AD08R it was suicide.
The best vehicle I've driven in the snow was my van.
Anything without modern esp or traction control should be OK.
I find they can't be fully turned off and ruin it all.
Worst cars are auto rwd.
Obviously if you have decent winter tyres any car should be great.
They are great fun in the snow if you know how to drive them. I remember driving past many cars struggling back in 2010 balancing the throttle and counter steering.
That was on Toyo T1r's also
AD08 aren't great in the wet let alone snow
@1979scotte ;)
@Ozzy I was going to ask. What tyres do you have on?
I think my all season tyres and MR2 made the difference between me sleeping in the car and in my bed when I drove home in the beast from the east. I think weight over the driven wheels, wheels that aren't also trying to steer and the LSD make the difference. From your experience, the tyres probably made less of a difference than I thought at the time.

Fine in the wet Steve.
It's just wet cold and 280 ftlb of torque they don't like.

Christ wasn't there he was busy with Gabriel.
Chris turned up though.
I've got Toyo TR1s on but being summer tyres, figured they should be crap but I've also driven in snow with crappy mismatched budget tyres and it's been the same same story... That said, I've never tried winter tyres on any car so can only imagine how much better they would be.
I'm just surprised how I've seen four wheel drive cars and all sorts getting stuck where MR2 just kept going lol. Literally the best car I've had for snow.

I've been using a spare set of wheels with winter tyres for a number of years now. Great up here in Scotland anyway.
A few years ago on the MR2OC Highland Drive in April, I checked the forecast & temps were still very low so I stayed on the winter rubber for the 4 day tour. The snow satred coming down fast & thick as we drove up the Cockbridge to Tomintoul road. It didn't last long but mine was the only car not taking sideways detours.

Another example. Dropping off my daughter at her pal's in thick packed snow, the 2 on winters was surprisingly simple. Later I had to pick up both her & one of her pals so had to take the other car. MB C320CDI auto on summer Contis. The Merc didn't know what it wanted to do.
TLDR. With winter tyres & driving to the conditions, it's a breeze.
