Title: Bruntingthorpe - the aftermath
Post by: mrsmr2 on May 2, 2005, 20:11
Now the car has properly cooled down, I've been out to check it and wash it.

Tyre pressures
I was running 4psi higher than normal.  36 at the rears and 29 at the front (except left front had 31  s:shock:  s:shock:  )

Tyres
Completely knackered.  I wasn't expecting them to last much longer but they really have been attacked.  Lots of bits of rubber had glued themselves back on to the surface.  Tyre walls are really trashed now.

Chips
Two bad ones.  One on the bodywork above the front windscreen.
The other was on the body above the front light.  The body work has been slightly dented as the paint is flaking.

Oil
No change.

Coolant
Has gone down a lot.  Was over the max line before and is now half way between min and max.

Verdict
Would do it again.

Jason - I'd have come over and said hello - I saw Slacey there but didnt realise anyone here was planning to go out on track.

I also used 4psi over standard - if you like something that oversters a little (I do) then put an extra couple of PSI in the rear tyres

I'm surprised by this - I took about 1-1.5mm of rubber off the A043s and A539s, the sidewalls and wear look fine otherwise. I was taking it relatively easy and wasn't sliding the car around all over the place as I knew the concrete surface would eat tyres ..

What tyres were you using BTW?

QuoteOil
No change.

Is it just me, or is the dipstick completely useless? pull it out, clean it, put it back in and then pull it out to read it - gave me 'full' on one side, and 'half full' on the other  s:?: :?: s:?:

I did put some oil in the engine though - what a 'mare it is to fill it though! I eded up decanting some oil into a plastic bottle, and then from there into the top of the engine. I guess you need a flexible funnel if you're filling it?

Hmm, mine didn't change at all - it shouldn't do really unless some has overflowed ?

I'm looking to do a trackday again at the end of May - I have booked in to Bookatrack's Anglesey date on Friday 27th but I may need to change that  ...

Hi Ben.

I wasn't hanging around and the tyres were a bit knocked up already (thanks to North Weald).  The bobbles of rubber have come off the tyres now so that look a lot better.  I've done about 130 miles since.

I'm on the original Bridgestone RE040s.  I remember Juansolo saying these tyres overheat quickly so not good for a track tyre.

I'm going to be buying some new tyres soon.  Time for some really good ones   s:D :D s:D  .  I'm not criticising the Bridgestones as I think they have been very good road tyres.

I'll try the tyre pressures next thing.

I get the same with the dipstick.

Enjoy Anglesey.  From what I hear it's a good circuit for the 2 as it's relatively small with lots of bends.

Update:

Coolant

Has now returned back to it's normal line - more than full

Oil

Level has not changed but is much darker in colour

Tyres
Much less grippy now but still have some life in them (now that the bobbles and bits of tyre have been worn off).

Car feels more direct now and the back end feels a bit more lively
