Title: Frunk clips
Post by: Rushy67 on May 9, 2021, 21:36
Can anyone point me in the direction of the part code for the front frunk clips that hold the plastic cover.
Being a purist i would like OE clips rather than a similar substitute.
thanks

I mean I know people that insist on toyota service packs and parts but clips for the frunk is on a whole nother level.

I'm pretty sure the Parts Manager at your local Toyota dealership will be able to help you with the numbers and the goods.

Best advise him to keep his hands off his neck when he tells him the price :))

Perhaps a strange truth- the frunk clips I use from eBay are sold as Volvo / compatible parts and Volvo is not a " cheap" brand.
I can't remember what the OE clips looked like, the car when I got it was 9 years old, they may have been OE then or maybe not, not all of the services had been done by Mr T. I know that Mr T does not remove the front plastics when servicing,   but maybe the Independents had and they do break
Either way who knows?

Any original, unbroken ones will probably be very brittle and faded by now.

You could just replace every one of them (instead of just the broken ones) with the ebay volvo ones so they all match and look "original"?

I cant say that I remember the Mr T ones as anything special.

For the non-visible clips I was wondering about getting screw type ones - anyone had a go? Something like:

Would mean they could come out easily without any force or damage to the trim.

I would say that type would be hard to get out and certainly harder than the original style.

I use that style on my front lip and mudguards and I can never get them out complete if I try and usually fit them with a mallet, just bashing them in as the threads dont really work screwing them in or out.

The oem style work fine for the frunk with appropriate tools for removal.

My experience of the screw type clip is, nah, they are a pain to get out

@Rushy67 the ones referenced on the vehicle clips link look right based on the single broken original that i have.  i bought some alternatives, 7mm but with a fatter head, which do the job. they came in a packet of 20 so i have enough for you if you want them.  happy to drop them across to ashburton.

perhaps a south west mini meet (two of us) one evening later this week for a quick spin across the moors?

Took my drunk plastic off at the weekend and most of the clips were the screw type. Absolute PITA to get some of them out. I'll be replacing them...

Hi pauli
Thanks very much for the kind offer, i have managed to get some today. I like the idea of a south west mini meet, although weather grim for a few days at present. Will definitely have to sort a run over the Moors.

Big bag of assorted clips I bought to replace wherever needed and I'm happy at £3.45. Thing I have a lifetimes supply now.
