Title: MR2 TTE Exhaust Hiss / metallic rattle
Post by: J4ck100 on June 3, 2021, 22:49
Hi all

Recently, my TF300 TTE exhaust has been making a strange hissing noise, most notably when lifting off the throttle.

A noise is emitted that sounds like a hissing/ fizzing noise and/or small metallic rattling noise. Quite hard to describe it really.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Seems most prevalent when letting off from around 3k rpm. Thanks in advance

Should there be a bolt here? Perhaps this is the source of the noise if so?

Have a search for heatshield rattle, its sounds like it's what your describing.
It's normally the rusty welds that you can't really see that have given up as well.

Most likely one of the heat shields or corrosion on one of the flanges causing it to blow.

My TTE had one of the internal pipes broken off, you could hear it if yanking it by hand or when emergency stopping.

Sounds like a heat shield rattle.

Yes there should be a bolt there. I just found any bolt that fit and made sure it was tight.

You might also want to get a big jubilee clip and wrap it round the whole heat shield.

If you still get a rattle, then as others have said, it could be internal to the exhaust itself.

As above sort out the heat shield.
If that doesn't solve it the next most likely culprit will be the internals of the TTE exhaust.
Getting more and more common.
