Title: Metallic clanging in front left fender
Post by: EJMK3 on July 10, 2021, 11:04
Have a heavy sounding metallic clanging at low speed, rougher roads coming from the front left. Have taken drunk out and had a garage look over the suspension parts also but no luck. Anything typically come loose there?

Shock top nut loosening is not uncommon. The spring top plate has a 'D' hole through it that should grip the shaft, but they are not a great fit. A quick burst with an impact gun might sort it.

Brilliant, hopefully refreshing the suspension in the next month so should catch it in reassembly. Would explain why I could feel anything loose as well!

The brake disc stone guards disintegrate over time these can lead to some strange noises.

this may also be the case... Mine have rusted away I was told by garage- so also have replacements to go in! But also highly possible, thanks!

Do you know it's quite involved replacing them?  I wouldn't want to be paying garage-labour to replace them...
Most people don't replace them. One end can be bodged by cutting a slot in the the guard & 'persuading' it over the hub. The other end is a full hub-split, I believe.

I got a quote for full brakes and suspension (they alerted me to these so these were included) and it was surprisingly cheap- maybe out of naivety! But thanks for letting me know, I'll have to see what they say if they do bring it up!

As above. A much bigger job than the part itself would have you believe.
