Title: What would it be worth?
Post by: Akayfortyseven on July 19, 2021, 15:22
Hi all,

Despite best intentions I dont seem to be using the MR2 as much as I would like.. We have just bought a dog as well so I cant really see this changing much.

Considering selling up, but not sure what sort of value to pitch it at?

PFL, 2002, Silver.

90,500 miles but has had a FL Engine fitted, supplied by Matt Lee earlier this year. Was serviced etc. when this was carried out along with o-ring for tensioner, VVT filter cleaned. Engine runs lovely, passed MOT no problem, no oil leaks. Sump was also replaced with a new one whilst engine was out.
JDM 5 speed 'box + Elise lightened flywheel, Exedy clutch all fitted when the swap was carried out.
Various polybushes on the rear along with a refurbed subframe.
Tein springs + KYB dampers all round, less than 1k miles on these.
Front and rear braces, Matt Performance belly brace.
Pioneer USB/Bluetooth headunit.
Motomec steering wheel and MOMO boss (have original wheel as well)
Speedline Chronos 15 inch alloys with Yoko AD08R tyres.
HEL braided lines, new rear caliper OS, refurbed NS, new handbrake cables when swap was carried out.
Ramair induction kit.
Interior has all been stripped, washed/cleaned and refitted recently.
Hood is original and watertight, decent condition for age.
Decat manifold + standard backbox/cat.
MOT till May 2022. All advisories attended to prior to retest but the NS handbrake was a bit poor in comparison to the OS.

Bad points;
Bodywork is average. Couple of dents and scratches.
EML on for lambda sensor heating element.

Ideal summer car or track car and I wouldnt hesistate to daily-drive it either.

I was thinking around £2k/£2.5k?

After a quick look on autotrader seems reasonable.
The JDM box is sought after although the lightened flywheels aren't to everyone's taste.
Do you know the reg of the car the new engine came from? Always helps if you can fins SH for it.

Must be able to get a replacement sensor from a breaker etc. for a fraction of new. Will be more reassuring to perspective buyers if dash doesn't light up.

MR2 prices are very wide ranging so there is no definitive answer I'm afraid.

That doesnt sound unreasonable given the current asking prices. I would suggest though that an MR2 is better then money in the bank and if you ever decide you miss it, you will probably have to pay a lot more for a good example. Make sure you are sure!

I agree that fixing the eml is important. Someone recently posted densos available for £28 on offer. Unless its the bottom one!, an easy fix and will definitely add hundreds to the price if its all working.
