Title: Engine Management Fault
Post by: Highley WFC on November 25, 2021, 17:47
A plea for help!!🤞😤
I have just bought a 2005 roadster with 30k miles. Filled it up with Super unleaded and drove it home and the Engine Management Light can on after 30 miles. Took it to local garage and fault code PO172 and P0175 system too rich. Fault reset but came back on after 7 miles. Two visits later and both Lambda sensors replaced on bank 1 and 2 and still the EML came back on. What the hell??? Replace the 3rd sensor??? Many thanks in advance.

Have you cleaned the MAF (mass air flow meter)?

It's sitting in the output side of the airbox.  Be two screws and a connector and it's out.  Be very careful not to lose the screws, they are tiny and tend to go walkies.

Take the O ring off and spray with carb cleaner. Don't poke about inside- just plenty of carb cleaner.  When it's dry, put the O ring back on and put it back in.

It might solve the problem.

If not, report back and we'll think again!

No loss having new sensors!

Evening, welcome to the club, nothing to add to the previous suggestion just yet but I'm interested to know how you found us? Nothing sinister, just some club research, cheers!

Also be a good idea to check the condition of the air filter.  Did you buy it privately or Trader?

Welcome 🙂

Might be a good idea to get a Bluetooth fault code reader so you can see what's happening in more detail.

Could be a multitude of things but you will defo get good advice here.

Any newly acquired old car should have its filters and fluids replace regardless of low millage or someone saying they already did.

Thanks all for the useful comments. Sorry took a while to respond. So to answer a few questions: yes bought privately; I found the owners club through an internet search; will look into the air filter and MAF, and report back.
Thanks again

Do you know if the seller had an OBD tool?  It's sounding like they did & cleared the codes before you bought it.
