Yesterday I removed the first roof clamp mechanism to cut down the receiver about 5mm so that I can put more tension on the roof because I have run out of adjustment.

Unfortunately I cannot get the thread to start on the cut down receiver.
I dont have a tap/die set so wondering if I need to get one to clean the thread in the receiver.
I dont want to go crazy and spend loads on something I may never use again so does anyone know what size I would need?
Any other tips for sorting this out?
Thanks!
@Topdownman If the left hand item, with the female thread is the receiver and is the part that has been cut down, then the right hand item, Male thread, appears to be a Left Hand thread.
That being the case to clean the thread in the female part you need a Left Hand tap.

Tony, you are a star! I hadnt realised it was a left hand thread so I was basically trying to tighten it up the wrong way!
All back in now I turned it the right way so time to do the other side!

I've never done anything like that Simon!!
PS
Tip for identifying hand of Male thread when looking at the end of the thread:
Left side Up is Left Hand thread. Right side up is Right Hand thread.

I didn't want to suggest that, - would be insulting, I thought. ??? But the male didn't look damaged. Hmmm...."Best say nothing then" ;D
OK, I'm an idiot!
Got the 1st side back on but the star washer on the 2nd side doesnt want to go back on at the moment hence the tea break!

Hopefully it works for you...did to the one I've done.
It went back on, not quite as far on as I would have liked but hopefully enough.
More tension on the roof now.
