Title: How to fit Power Steering Pump ?
Post by: Anonymous on June 8, 2005, 11:23
Has anyone replaced their power steering pump themselves?
I've recived my replacement one I bought from Ebay and had a close look at it for the first time and it looks like a DIY job. The only difficult bit appears to be the lower metal tube which may have some kind of gasket/washer? And the unlikely risk or airlocks? Process would appear to be.

1. Unbolt old pump
2. Remove Electrical connectors
3. Remove top pipe
4. Unscrew Bottom pipe
5. Spill PS Fluid everywhere then clean it up.

6.Reverse the process
7. Top up pump with fluid if needed.

Is it this easy or am i missing something important like bleeding the system?

R.

Toyota quote it as a 2 hr job, which is what made me think that it is not a DIY unless you are 100% that you know what you are doing, I believe from the mechanic that done mine for me that the system has to be bled.
