Title: FS: Much-loved 2004 Facelift Sable Toyota MR2 MK3 Roadster
Post by: Bossworld on May 26, 2024, 13:24
Unfortunately the time has come to sell. The car is a 2004 Toyota MR2 roadster, Sable colour, black leather interior. Car is in Chesterfield, Derbyshire and currently SORN. Can be shown running and there's approx 10m of path at the back of the house to see it rolling, but can't go out on the public roads unless you have insurance and tax.

The car has been in family possession since October 2016, I ran it for 4 years; before my Mum took it on as a replacement for hers (as this car came with A/C) and has owned it ever since. She's recently taken my MK6 Golf, as after surgery, she needs something 'less involved' to drive.

For a 20 year old car, it drives very well; I've done Sheffield < > Newcastle without missing a beat. I must flag at this point that the mileage is 154,423 - this may go up by another 50 or so.

The car has a fully stamped service book all the way through to 18 years old/2022, at which point the book runs out of space. My stepdad did the oil and filter last year; I've just been to Toyota this morning for a new oil filter and sump washer, so will be sorting that in the coming days, along with some NGK spark plugs. I have a wallet full of receipts and invoices, and of course there's my 'reader's rides' thread which details everything done in my ownership. For reference, I bought the car on ~123k miles, so between us we've only put 32k miles on it in 8 years - have spent more time doing it up!

In terms of extras, the car has most of the common 'tweaks' that were in vogue throughout my time on this site:

Other replaced items that commonly need doing on these cars, include:

* Air-con is currently not blowing cold. Was working fine until spring this year. Mum took the car to ATS for a recharge, I'm relying on 2nd hand info here but they've advised that it pulled a vacuum and hadn't lost much and thought it may be the compressor. I've tested the A/C relay and seems fine, unfortunately having thrown £500+ at the A/C over the years, I don't have the time or inclination to go further down the road with troubleshooting this time. I did see a second hand/tested compressor on eBay for £30.

Car has been under a hard top most of its life (has sold separately so no longer available) There are some swirls and scratches to the paintwork, as you'd expect for a car of this age. The softtop has one small nick in the outside skin on the side (circa 1 inch) but softtop is otherwise excellent.

Car is MOT'd through to December 2024.

I'm looking for £2000 which is less than it's advertised for on eBay/Autotrader. I appreciate the mileage may put some people off, but I'm pricing on the basis that the car's parts would break for that kind of money. I genuinely hope that's not the route the buyer takes, but appreciate it's out of my hands.

Mannol C3 7715 5w30 oil and Toyota filter + sump washer, + NGK BKR5EYA-11 spark plugs fitted today.

Some extra pics. Unfortunately can't seem to stop the rain to take external shots.

Looking through paperwork, the car also had 2 x new rear tyres (Maxxis HP5 in the correct 215/45/16 facelift size) 4000 miles ago, in July 2023. The fronts are Avon ZV7, again proper size 185/55/15, with plenty of tread. Wheels are OK, the attached pic is indicative of the other three too.

Rear bumper has 'spats' (assuming part of TTE kit as has always been on the car since I got it). There are some bits of flaking paint on the bumper and a small horizontal crack on the nearside a few inches down from the light, all pictured.

Will also be listed on MR2 'For Sale' page on Facebook.

Spares I've found in the garage

- Cut plastics for a hard top (no hard top available)
- Toyota 'hat' front badge and 'Roadster' and 'Toyota' badges from rear
- Original gear cage and gear cable bushings if you wanted to revert to stock
- Original dash bulbs and some spare LED ones
- Original heater control knobs if you wanted to revert to stock
- New receiver/drier unit and plug for air con condenser (theoretically it can be swapped out)
- Couple of rear key casings
- Spare engine bay rod clip

Update 2:

Checked the roof - Few creases/marks from where it's been stored under the hard top the last four years and a pic of the tiny nick I mentioned (handy hair had blown next to it for comparison).

Car now listed on eBay, have found my replacement (Arbath 500). Will be taking it back down to Chesterfield at the end of June if not sold.

@Bossworld and to whom it may concern:

Bill Ritson  (a Member on here) had a 2 with 217k miles since he had it from new.
For the first 120k the oil and filter was changed every 5k!

Good luck with the sale. For what's it worth, the mileage wouldn't put me off, especially with some big jobs having been done. I'm in need of a daily driver and this would be ideal but I need a couple more seats!

Just bumping this one more time - Ideally need the car sold this week as otherwise it's going to be moved down to the Midlands and SORN. Willing to listen to offers for the car and/or hardtop.

Hi Joe,

How much would you be asking for the hardtop?

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike, sorry the hard top went earlier today (via eBay). Chap from Slough who buys/sells MR2 - believe he's probably active on the Facebook group as don't recognise him from the forum.

Car still available separately, back down in Chesterfield S41 (appreciate you're not after another car!)

No worries, certainly not. Mine is still going strong.

Now sold. Thank you everyone at MR2ROC and hope this community keeps going.

Have moved onto an Abarth 500c myself, and that forum is dead, it's all Facebook.

All the best

Sorry to see you go.  It's getting harder and harder to keep a forum going!
