Title: Curious to know what this unconnected pipe is for?
Post by: Trebordoody on June 27, 2024, 12:29
Quick question - please can someone tell me what this unconnected pipe is for just in front of the bulkhead?

I have some ideas but really not sure, so any help appreciated.
And before you ask, yes, I'm planning to de-rust and protect everything shortly!  ;)

That is for helping to bleed your coolant system.

Got it, thanks @MrChris.
I assumed it was to drain something but seems inelegant to leave a pipe coiled up in there!!
Hopefully I won't need to use it any time soon.
Appreciate the help!

The system is a bit of a faff to bleed but not impossible. These pipes you hook to the bonnet (or  tape it or whatever) and it aids in the bleeding process by allowing the coolant to rise up during  the bleed process.

@Trebordoody your u/j looks in good condition, whilst the frunk's off it'd be a good time to put a protective wrap over it.  Lightly grease it & some stout polythene & a couple of cable ties.

Thanks for the advice @Gaz mr-s

I just had a quick look for pics of what your suggestion might look like on the car but saw @Snelbaard has made a nice looking boot kit for it, so might spend a few quid and make it look "proper":

The advantage of the above (as well as cost) is that it doesn't require splitting the column.
