Title: Alternator not charging
Post by: LozB on July 11, 2024, 06:08
Currently stranded in Dover on way to ferry. Battery totally dead. Starts with jump starter on boost but dies again when boost cuts out. Looks like alternator isn't charging the battery

New battery and recon alternator fitted a few weeks ago.

Alternator fuse ok

Any ideas

Thanks. Funny thing is the charge warning light wasn't on? Surely if the alternator was broken or not charging the light would come on. Is that correct?

I think I know exactly which terminal isn't connected properly. Been there, done that.

Check that the small lead is well connected to the alternator (field), its feeds 12 volts to energise the alternator without it you wont get a charge and it wont show the ignition light on the dash a good give away. I had this once and the lack of a charge just runs the battery to totally flat.
