Title: Shake is driving me nuts
Post by: Anonymous on June 15, 2005, 19:41
The scuttle shake on my car seams to be getting worse!!

I installed a TRD tower brace which tightened the steering response and is great. I noticed a slight increase in shake after doing this.

I then bought an anti-flex plate from corky and this again made the chassis feel stiff but increased shake - which I thought was v. odd and is now starting to bug me. Car has only 13k miles on it.

I want to know if it's worth buying member braces. Will this reduce the shake?

Hmmm, this sounds a bit odd - the mods you have done are all designed to reduce flex and shake  s:? :? s:?
Whereabouts are you, chances are that someone nearby can take a ride in your car and vice-versa to see what's what.

Could this be some tyres that are really out of balance? As the Chasis gets stiffer it absorbs the shake less so you feel it more?

My balancing is fine. The shake seams to be more noticable through the steering wheel than before the mods.

I'm convinced that the lower half of the car is now the weak point and this is being transmitted through the wheel.

Has anyone installed this?

You've already got most of that in the form of the tower bars that Toyota added to the car in '03. I doubt the extra piece of plating would make that much difference.

Definitely not. The post 03 even in standard form has substantially more stiffening than pre 03. With what you have should be rock solid.

If its coming through the steering wheel, and tyres are OK, what about suspension struts? Could they be shot?

I've never had the experience, can somebody who has say what its like?

you should come live round my way, you wouldn't notice it at all as the roads out doo any shakes, not that i've got any, with an 03 with front and back TRD strut bars and a corkies plate.

Stop trying to mod it away and admit your 2 has a problem that needs fixing  s:roll:  s:roll:  it wont work  s:? :? s:?

Mine's started 'shimmying' at speed, but I have noticed some self-adhesive weight is missing from some of the wheels. I intend to have it recified this lunchtime.  s:wink:  s:wink:

Yep, wheel balancing was miles out. It's been like that since the wheels went on.  s:shock:  s:shock:   I kinda assumed that it was because of the bigger wheels/less tyre wall... Doofus.

Now it's great.  s:D :D s:D
