Title: Craig’s blue 04
Post by: Craigjm on October 19, 2024, 19:43
As per previous thread the silver one was written off BUT I've grown to really like the cheapest car in my garage so...

I am only the second owner. Has been owned from new by the sellers mum and left to him in her will (alongside a huge farm in Wiltshire). 100k on the clock full Toyota history including the subframe a couple of years ago.

Has air conditioning that works and the hard top which my silver had neither. The original soft top is in amazing condition as she ran it permanently with the hard top on.

I will hopefully buying the salvage from mine so I can swap the audio system over and a couple of other bits. I will also put the mohair hood on

Happy days and the insurance payout when it's finalised looks like I will be no worse off or maybe £500 at most.

So the silver car has been recorded as a category B so they won't give it back. Cue claim for the audio equipment going in to the insurer as there is £1000 separate cover for that.

The blue car is currently at Mr Twos having a major service, the rust proofing done and a general overview of what might need to be done.

I'm going to get a mohair hood for it. May sell the hard top and will then do the suspension and brakes like I did on the last one.

Car is just back from a full respray. Really happy with that. Also now has a full on mohair hood from soft top shop in Manchester and renewed suspension and brakes including refurbed and painted calipers.

When being reaprayed I fitted new headlights and fog lights too as the old ones even polished looked crap.

Next job is the audio and some new wheels and then there will be some interior bits

if you're able to indicate what a full respray costs that would be great to know!

Depends what you want. This was not a bare metal spray. That would have been 10k. This was the repair of numerous issues and then a three coat "blow over" for want of a better phrase. It was £2500 spurred on by having to get the rear bumper sorted after someone broke it while reversing and they paid a decent sum to avoid the insurance. Car they had a professional polish after the paint

But then and get someone else to do it haha

I just took opportunity of having the bumper already off the car

Great job @Craigjm, looking really good! I am a Sable Grey fan but this shows that these cars look fantastic in any colour if they are cared for and presented as well yours is  ;)

Thanks. It's better than spending a grand on a PCP every month for sure so the modern daily has gone back so why not spend a bit. What's left to do now is the audio system, the new JR29 white wheels and the seats are being retimed in a tan colour with some free leather I got as part of buying the leather for my Classic Mini project.

It's had new JR29 wheels in white with new Goodyear tyres and a ceramic coating. Was due to have the interior retrimmed but the leather out of stock for a few weeks so just had the new seatbelts fitted for now
