Title: Driver's door won't stay open
Post by: Trebordoody on October 30, 2024, 18:11
A new issue has surfaced recently - whilst parked on a hill, the driver's side door refuses to stay open.
I'm assuming this is a problem with the door strap/stay/check being worn, and guessing that it might need replacing (Toyota part number is 6861017020)

Second-hand on eBay is around 30 quid inc. postage, with no guarantee that it isn't worn either!
So perhaps it would be better to get new from Amayama for around the same price.

I've searched the forum and YouTube and haven't found a convincing solution yet.
Before I buy a replacement, has anyone else had this problem and managed a fix?
Or do I really need to replace it?

Cheers, Rob

Try lubricating withsome WD type stuff, followed by something like morocycle chain lube.  I've had to do mine a couple of times over the years.

Thanks @Carolyn
Tried that and still no joy :(

I don't think it's a lubrication problem as it's moving freely (almost too freely if anything!), I'm guessing it's just a worn strap.

Some videos suggest using a Dremel to reshape the strap a bit, but I'm not convinced!

For the sake of £25 new, I think I'll just replace it.

Thanks for the suggestion though ;)
