Title: ABS pump
Post by: Mr220Mike on November 23, 2024, 05:10
Hi all

When driving home the other night the brake pedal went really hard for a few moments then returned to normal but the ABS light came on. Car now has a normal brake pedal but no ABS. The engine light came on briefly yesterday but has now gone out. The speedometer stopped working the restarted and after stopping for fuel yesterday, stopped again.

From what I've read it seems likely to be ABS pump. Does that sound right? If so, does anyone know where I can source a new one? Tried to find one with no luck so far. Are they now obsolete?

I'd prefer to buy new if possible. There isn't anything on TCB website. Will try Mr T

44510-17080 (tel:44510-17080): 6546

Searching with the part number doesn't bring anything up other than a raft of used options on fleabay etc.
I can only recommend J.Spec or Dick Sloan having used them both previously for used parts and being perfectly satisfied with their services.

Thanks for that. I've struggled to find any new parts. Thanks for the part number as I hadn't got that. If I have to go used I'll certainly be calling J spec or Dick Sloan.

I've just done a bit of mooching around with a few Google seaches:

Surpise, suprise, the ABS pump on a 2002 Avensis looks just like the one for a 2002 MR2.

The parts bin strikes again!

Couldn't find a new one listed, but I bet it's out there...

Thanks Carolyn, that's great sleuthing. I'll do some further research and report back.

TCB is a one man business. I understand he splits his day into various tasks and you will be unlikely to get to speak if for instance he is packing items for dispatch. I have on occasion emailed and followed up with a phone callthe next day.

The number I found was 44050-17030.  it is still listed by amayama, but you may want to sit down before getting the price.  Considering the range of symptoms, it might be a good idea to check for loose wiring or a bad ground.

I'm glad I was sitting down when I looked. Yes, I will definitely be doing a full range of diagnostics before buying a new unit. Fingers crossed it's something fairly minor.

If you are still looking for one, I have one for sale ( from Japan - very low mileage ).

I would confirm it isn't just a failed abs sensor before going for an expensive pump.

Sorry, only just seen this. Yes it was just a failed sensor although not particularly cheap to replace.

Thanks though @ J88TEO

Not "very" expensive.
I have one, just £100.00

Shouldn't be that expensive they start at £8 for rears on autodoc so I'd guess £20-£30 locally....If the front i'd just change the hub/sensor complete at £50 new rather than mess about fitting the new black plastic housing centre containing the sensor.
