Title: Hardtop trim part
Post by: Bcxbcx on December 10, 2024, 16:02
What's the name/part no for this bit?
It's from the corner of the hardtop, by the top of the window.
Other side must have come loose at some point too.

I'm reasonably sure they're not available anymore, but wanted to check, and searching isn't turning anything up for me.

If you want to save a few pounds I'd be happy to share the postage/bulk discount with you. My hardtop lost them long ago.

If you can wait, I'm going to have a go at 3d printing some myself.
I'm working on it now, although the next few weeks will be busy with Christmas family stuff.
I'm going to scan the one I have and draw it up in 3D.
And I've got some UV and temperature resistant ASA filament coming to make it.

Fancy testing them out? Giving feedback on fit?

Worse comes to worse I end up buying the ones from abroad, but ive had some other clips work out quite well.

For those that know what sort of files are required for 3d printing.

Might the file already exist?
Quite a few mr2 related files here.

Sounds good. I'm in no hurry, they've been missing for years, a few weeks won't make any difference. I'd be more than happy to be a guinea pig.

I've not been able to find anything yet. It would be nice if someone had one.

If you're referring to the gap on the hard top corner, then I never realised mine were "missing".

So count me in please. I think that makes 4 of us so far.

I've made some progress. Left is an original (painted a light colour to make it easy to scan), right is one from a scan; I printed it straight from the scan with little editing.

I'll make some edits in fusion CAD to make something better. Then try a few different materials.

Do these 3d printers do scanning too, or is that separate equipment?

Separate bits of kit. Its quite impressive what you can get as a consumer these days, relatively cheaply. The industrial equipment and software must be pretty amazing, if a bit expensive.

I had a big accident back in Feb, I've been hoping to get back on this, but unfortunately I still can't use my left arm, so it's on the back burner for a bit.

I came off my mountain bike on a steep track, and flew a bit.
I landed on my left side on rocks, and made friends with a tree.
Fortunately I had pads, torso armor and a good helmet.

Leg/hip has healed, but left arm is messed up still, with Torn Tendons and broken bone fragments impinging movement (im not sure i can explain it better). It's not been healing well.
