Howdy all
Can anyone offer any advice on how to remove the air vents from the dash - specifically the one to the right of the steering wheel?
There's something rattling around there in mine. Ive had the door in bits a few times trying to find the source, but drawn a blank, and I'm now thinking it might be something loose / broken off in the vent housing. Replacements are no longer available, so I'm loath to attack it randomly as I'll no doubt break it.
Any suggestions gratefully received.
Not heard of anyone removing just vent. Whole dash maybe.
You might ask J-Spec - they are very helpful. Plus they can supply a replacement if needed.
There are a few bits of this video where you might be able to get a view of the vent arrangement.
Sounds like a world of pain to solve so good luck!
Easy fix, turn the radio up
If you have access to a 3D printer, I know someone has made a vent removal tool for our cars.

I have a 3D printer and could print and send for free with a pre-paid label if anyone needs.
Will send the printed tools to ruud2boy to test whether they work:

Legend!!
In the toyota workshop manual it looks like they are held in with two screws on diagonal corners. The size of the part makes me think they screw into the rear side of the dashboard, so you remove the whole thing to then get them out from behind. Looks like a lot of work!
I'm hoping to find a way to remove the moveable grill bit without having to pull the housing out entirely.
Fingers crossed the tools
@bobo83 has very kindly created will do the trick.
Sourced a replacement housing / vent as well from a scrappie, so I can have a practice first.
