Title: Spare wheel needed in Berkshire (Wokingham) - few weeks max
Post by: tadekk on April 8, 2025, 22:21
Hello fellow MR2 owners. Mentos came out of winter hibernation given the sunny weather, and I decided to treat it to a new set of Falken tyres and alloy refurbishment.

Does anyone have a spare wheel I could borrow withing reasonable distance from Reading/Wokingham? Beer tokens await :)

I don't trust the workshop to jack the car (after being scarred by previous experiences (https://www.mr2roc.org/index.php?topic=74998)), so I intend to give them bare wheels. I have two jacks stands for the rear, but I would love to leave the front on spare wheels.

I have spare wheels but I'm in South Northamptonshire - probably a bit far?

Thank you for the offer but indeed - a touch too far :)

Hi, I could help but don't want to drive around without a spare.
I'm on holiday late May for 10 days, can you wait 'til then?
I live very close, RG6.
Rgds Kevin

I will definitely be in touch if I can't figure out an option sooner - thanks!

@tadekk

You have axle stands for the rears and need only to support the front, by far the lighter end, for a period to refurbish the wheels and fit new tyres.
That should be done in a day if powder coating.
The OE Jack is very capable of lifting the front end, there is a central flat area marked on the undertray.
I use that to place my front axle stands as it is easier within the confines of my garage than using my trolley Jack. But I am sure giving reasonable care it would hold the car for the period you need if your car is in a garage away from the attention of others.
Alternatively my daily has 15 inch wheels, with 4 fixings and a spare, what does your daily have?

If you are only using the wheel to hold the car up rather than the jack, even just getting a couple of bolts in would be enough.  Especially if you left the OEM jack in place also

Sorry I didn't see this earlier @tadekk

Not sure if you sorted anything, but I might be able to help you out depending on my upcoming MOT - maybe bridge the gap to @kbpop123 going on holiday at least!

I'll drop you a PM and see what works.
