I have a cocker spaniel and need dog transport when the other car is in use by my wife. So I got to thinking, would it be possible to get some passenger seat rails, get a dog crate and screw it on to the rails with washers?
Anyone done anything similar?
My wife thinks I'm a bit nuts and she's not wrong, but this seems pretty safe and reasonable to me...
I've travelled with our dog in a crate on the passenger seat with no issues. For longer or more permanent use I would probably thread a luggage strap through the crate and around the back of the seat.
Beware, your dog will demand sunglasses and a Toyota branded cap........

Quite happy to provide the sunglasses and cap :D
The reason I'm looking to mount a crate on the rails is that he's still growing and feel like the size of crate I could get on the seat would be too small. I also found that when he was on the back seats of a different car (in a crate) it was not great for him as it was slightly slanted. Crate on rails = flat.
What sort/size of dog do you have?

Didnt think of dog sizes. Ours is a Jack Russell so easy enough to fit in a seat sized crate.

I presume to dog wont sit still on the passenger seat. As long as they are restrained and not distrating you that is allowed. I understand the crate option too though but havent tried it.

Yeah so this is what I did with our previous dog (jack russel/yorkie cross) and she was fine. However I now have a cocker spaniel who gets excited by literally anything and loves to sit on your head. Crate is absolutely essential :D
You could always put them on the luggage rack.
I'm in a similar quandary. I'm toying with getting a cage that will fit on the front seat.
I've got a way of securing mine in the seat, but she wriggles around. And she won't go in the passenger footwell (FOMO dog)

What a great picture!
I'm looking at getting some seat rails to see about mounting a crate directly to the floor. Failing that I might look at seeing how I might rig something up to make a flat platform for the crate to go on and then secure that somehow.
