Title: Clutch replacement
Post by: lemans on June 26, 2025, 14:15
I've started having trouble getting into reverse particularly whem my engine is warm. The gear engages ok but the gears complain very loudly. First can also be a little difficult to engage also. After 50k miles on the turbo conversion I suspect my clutch has seen better days.

I had the SP240 conversion done by Matt and I remember the clutch was replaced with an uprated item. The only info on my records was the clutch was an "SP clutch" which doesn't help much. The clutch pedal adjustment has also been done sometime ago when this issue arose in the past. So there may not be any scope to adjust this further.

Does anyone know what specific uprated clutch was fitted to the SP240? What specs do I need to look for in a replacement if the original SP Clutch is not available?

Thanks for any help or advice on this.

You probably won't want to, but there's a long-standing MR2 owner who did have a turbo'd car who ran for quite some time with a standard clutch.

This seller has numerous different clutch kits.  I have looked into them before because my partner has a 2zz Compressor & I expected her to need one this year, but not yet.

The same clutch seems to have been used in the 2zz & also the 2zz Compressor with significantly more torque.
The ad' above has a phone number, you could see if they'll give you the part number(s) & find info that way.

I can highly recommend getting yourself the clutch from the supercharged 2zz corolla.
Honestly feels like stock and no issues with it whatsoever.

I'd doubt they have detailed knowledge.  You want the part no's of the kit, or clutch plate & pressure plate. The do some research.
