Title: Wheel Bearing/Hub source?
Post by: Whisperhead on July 3, 2025, 13:50
Hello all,

Had a little bit of humming/slight knocking I could feel through the steering column emerge recently. Had a mechanic check over the car, turns out my front passenger side wheel bearing is shot. I see from Japan Parts that these are basically a complete unit, so I'm guessing these are a lot more expensive than the rears.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to source a replacement? None of the motor factors nearby have any stock.
I've heard TCP are supposed to be good? The car is still driveable but of course I wanna get this swapped out soon as its my daily car hehe.

Am I better off replacing both front assemblies, since it's a 25 year old car now?

...nope ...whole unit.
I may have a set, low mileage from Japan.
Will have to check.

Nice one - mine has ABS and so will require that type, just in case. I'm looking to move fairly quickly on this, I don't want to be stranded in this hot sun.

Toyota part number = 43550-17010

My mechanic refuses to fit after-market wheel bearings after fitting 2 in succession on the same Audi & both had play in them from new. That said,I've not seen any negative feedback on the aftermarket ones for the MR2 (at least not on here).

I got a genuine part from GT4-Play last year. If you can find a Koyo branded one I'm given to understand they make them for Toyota themselves.

Whilst we wouldn't fit no name unbranded parts we've never had a problem with any motor factor supplied part with a name on it, Napa, First Line, Skf etc and we have fitted 100s over the years to every car you could mention. Actually do quite alot of Toyota Yaris rears for whatever reason.
Just had a look, a First Line/Borg and Beck bolt on front hub  unit costs approx £50 each....can't see why they wouldn't do the job tbh. You could probably fit four over time and still be cheaper than a "genuine"  Toyota part😁
TOYOTA   4355017010

MANUFACTURER NUMBER
BWK1129 (Borg and Beck)
FBK1129 (First Line) same parts different box/ same company.
Sometimes they are actually SKF bearings in the box and they are a very good make.

Car parts in Motion (online) stock them, can't see why a local motor factor can't get them.

Recently fitted borg an beck ones. No issues with fitment and so far no problems either.

Sourced from parts in motion.

At least you can buy them, approx £6 each or reuse the originals if ok

Mini update - I sourced a Borg & Beck new unit in the end from TCB, with ABS sensor. Fits just fine. Thank you all for your help with this.
