Title: washing seat covers???
Post by: Anonymous on June 22, 2005, 15:10
has anybody ever tried removing there seat covers and either having them dry cleaned or machine washing them????
anybody think this is a good or bad idea???
the outer edges are easy to clean but its the mesh bits that never seem to get any cleaner???
please no jokes about should have got leather seats and i wouldn't have this problem.

I've never taken them off or washed them, but I did get rid of a rather large stain caused by the contents of a cornish pastie (don't ask!) using Vanish spray.

Can't spot   s:lol:  s:lol:    s:lol:  s:lol:  the difference now.

I've fitted new cloth covers on my seats and it is a bit fiddly, but quite okay with a bit of patience. You might want to get a good supply of cable ties to replace the original copper wires that clip the strainer cables to the seat frame. I didn't wash mine, but I would think it wise to use a delicate wash cycle or the covers may shrink.
Good luck man.  s:D :D s:D

well i took them out and given them a good going over with some meguiars carpet/upholstery cleaner and a bloody good scrub, so im gonna see what results that brings.
if they still look dirty then i might have a go at hand washing them as i think a machine wash may shrink em.
i am going to rogue tommorrow to get a quote to have it re-trimmed so if i cock them up its no major loss.

Those portable steam cleaners you can pick up at homebase look like they'd do the job,  I managed to get a load of red wax out of a beige carpet with one, so up to the job.
