Title: I do get cross!
Post by: Chilli Girl on January 30, 2026, 18:24
So the title was, "Can you get a 2k sports car?"  So I started reading it expecting the little Roadster to be there.  To my bitter disappointment, no mention of the little car.  Instead, BMW Z3, Audi TT, MX5, MGTF and would you believe it a Renault Wind.  Why is the little 2 never mentioned much these days and please don't say impractical cos it ain't.   Rant over.   :o

I do agree, but on plus side it keeps the costs down for us and the others that know what a bloody brilliant little sports car it is.

I had a BMW Z3 before my MR2 and there's no comparison. The Z3 was the 6 pot 2ltr which was a lovely smooooooth engine but overall it was dull. The MR2 feels alive and like you're connected to it, I love it!

I am annoyed with Mr T who had been teasing about an announcement about the MR2 to be made at the recent Tokyo motorshow.

What they actually showed was an offroad kei pickup truck!

Not sure who thought that was a good idea.

But back on topic, there is certainly something that makes the 2 invisible to a lot of press and buyers!

I do think it starts off being a bit marmite.
I remember it coming out and seeing it at car shows thinking "which side is the front?" It's odd looking.
But... now (obviously!) I know it's the best 2-seater available :)

I came into MR2 ownership by pure fluke like Pete I had owned BMW Z3 & Z4's for the last 10 years the straight 6 is a lovely engine and they are a nice GT tourer.

There was a MR2 with the roof open when I went to the local shop, so I hung about for a bit to talk to the owner, Dave who sang the MR2's praises offered to take me for a quick spin down the local back road and I was instantly converted.

I've never been in a car that handled like a go-kart before, It took me a while to find one as I needed an SMT I have been previously never considered one from the gearbox reputation however that is a bit unfounded.

The driving experience and the genuine and helpful community around the car makes these the best value car in the UK.

My only regret is not buying one a long time ago.

These cars were never main stream and most reviews when it came it out mentioned the lack of luggage space being the issue.

Like many, I was never really that much of a fan of the look of the mr2 roadster and bought it for the fun drive it offered.

It's aged well and is so compact compared to modern cars.

I think it's aged really well.

You tell in the faces of children that have never seen one before. To them it's fresh and a break from the norm.
