Title: Starts misfiring / cutting out as i approach 5000 revs
Post by: 105e on September 18, 2026, 14:40
So after 7 odd years with just servicing and consumables i finally have an issue.. Normally i find i never really have a need to go that far in the rev range but on a bit of uphill dual carriageway that i pull out onto, i do need acceleration when the TITLE has started happening. Done a bit of googleing and have ordered the cheapest obd2 fault finder, it must be rubbish but time will tell..

Almost certain to be the Crank sensor, & if you're lucky, the earth connection.  A round terminal under a bolt head at the bottom of the timing cover.  10 or 12mm bolt if I remember correctly.  It could be loose or corroded. Jack the car up high for easier movement.

So where i am, decided to just order a new (non toyota) sensor, was waiting for the code reader to arrive as wanted to see how it worked, Must still be on its way from china as no sign yet.. Decided to just fit the new sensor but i just could not find/ see/ feel the end of the cable to disconnect. So i just refitted the old one while cleaning up the earth. Test drive revealed it reved a little higher but sounded like it was about to break.....
