Title: Remote Control for Euro Import
Post by: Comer on August 14, 2003, 21:30
I've the Panasonic stereo which comes in the Euro import and the manual says that there is an optional remote control you can buy.

The part number is 08693-00801.  Has anyone already got this?  Is it an actual remote or one that fits to the steering column?  How much does it cost?

If not then I'll try to ask my dealer but that depends if their parts system is down again....yeah right.

I've just called Mr T and they say the description for the above part has the letters 'brkt' so they think it's a bracket and not a remote control especially as it costs £27.95.

But it's not in stock so they have to order it, take full payment and it's non refundable.  Do I take a risk???

Have you asked them why you should take the risk when it's their car.  I mean they designed/build and maintain the things for heaven's sake. They should be telling you what part you need for a remote, not the other way around.

Toyota UK may speak to Belgium if they can to find out for me but on their system if definitely says Radio Bracket Kit.  The number maybe a typo in the stereo manual.

Unfortunately as soon as you say the word import they lose interest.

Just had a call from Mr T because my remote control has arrived.  It's not a unit for fitting to the steering column, but an actual hand set like one for a TV.

Really worth having in a 2 seater car!  I'll still buy it  s:oops:  s:oops:

Picked up my remote control tonight and guess what? It doesn't bloody work!!  Tried 2 separate batteries and still no joy.  The guy at Mr T is going to order another unit while his boss is away to see if it's a faulty unit.

I've done some digging and I think it's not compatible  s:roll:  s:roll:

The manual for my Toyota (Panasonic) TM4412 (Toyota Part No.08600-00935) says that you van buy an optional remote control unit Toyota Part No. 08693-00801

Now the instruction booklet for the remote says that its only for use with the TM4200 (08600-00918) or TM4411 (08600-00919).

So basically the booklet for the original stereo is wrong and that came from Toyota in Denmark.  Now whilst I was talking to the guy at Mr T tonight I've found out that Toyota UK will not refund any specially ordered parts if they are not faulty.

Looks like my problem is with Toyota in Denmark or even Panasonic, but Toyota UK has my £28.  What do I do???

If you read SteveJ's ABS legal wranglings, you'll see that since March the onus is on Toyota to prove that the remote worked properly when they sold it to you.  So get them to prove it.  If nothing else, it'll wind 'em up for a while, and waste some of their time.  Make them think twice about the 30quid.

Did you ever get satisfaction regarding your remote control ?.....

I went through the same process - but got a RC that works ....the stereo in my 2 is a Toyota TM 4210 ..which is a badged Panasonic 78410.

The RC is real dinky and allows the driver to fiddle with volume / track etc and keep eyes on the road...

The Panasoinc part number is YEFX9991526A and I got mine from Marc at  e happyone1112@btopenworld.com e  for about £18

I was fortunate to get a refund in the end as I said it was faulty and not that it was the wrong one.  Thanks for the info about where you got yours from, I may go down the same route but it's gone lower down on my shopping list   s:wink:  s:wink:
