Title: Oil Change
Post by: Anonymous on July 8, 2005, 13:28
I haven't done this before but would like to do the oil change myself on the '2. Does anyone have a step by step guide? I did use the magic search button but found nothing. Could someone please tell me:

Where are the filter and sump plug? I had a look but couldn't see them!
How do people deal with their used oil?
How many litres should I put in when also changing the filter?

Any help appreciated.

James

1. Get the car on a ramp or over a pit, remove the oil filler cap
2. Remove the rear and middle plastic undercovers
3. Remove sump plug (on the rear of the oilpan)
4. Drain oil
5. When oil has completely drained, remove the filter which is located at the the rear of the engine, just above the oilpan (you will see it when you look there)
6. Reinstall sump plug
7. Install new filter (pre-filled with new oil) and screw it in hand tight with a smear of oil on the rubber gasket
8. Refill oil - add a litre or so at a time, let settle then check the level - after three litres add less each time and check until the level is correct
9. Replace plastic undercovers
10. Replace oil filler cap

If your going to make a habit of it then it's well worth getting one of these

This will make the subsequent changes easier and less messy.

old oil can go to the local council tip where they have a disposal unit.
