Title: Oil question.
Post by: Anonymous on July 16, 2005, 16:12
Hi all,

I know I've seen this before but I've searched for over an hour but still can't find the right info so please don't shoot me   s:oops:  s:oops:

I know that Toyota recommends semi-synthetic 5W-30, but I can't seem to find any other brands of Semi 5W-30 other than Magnatec and a brand made specifically for Fords.

I've tried using Magnatec and I'm ok with it but would like to try something else after reading about how Magnatec gets too thin too quickly in the '2.

Can someone please tell me what other brands there are and where I can get them from.

What brand and viscosity do you lot use?

Cheers,

Thanks for the link but I found that this thread didn't answer my main question and became more of a dino vs. fully synth thread.
Specifically, I'm looking to replace my oil with only 5W-30 semi (as per Toyota) and the only name brought up in a 5W-30 in that thread is Magnatec.
Sorry I should have been more specific with my original post.
Can someone tell me who else makes a 5W-30 semi oil?

Thanks all.

Hi Noble.

Try getting yourself a Demon Tweeks catalogue, you can order one by calling 01978 664466. They can supply several makes in 5w30 from people like Red Line, Motul, SR-1 plus more.

Another question – how much oil does the car take? 3.5 or 4 litres?

By pure chance I stumbled upon a 5W-30 semi that wasn't Ford specific in a motor factors a few miles from me.  It's Mobil FE Super 5W-30 semi (FE Super = Super Fuel Economy) - cost me £14.50 for 4 litres.  I didn't think that Mobil made a 5W30 but I bought it anyway to give it a try.  I'll let you all know how I get on with it initially in a few weeks time.

I think I'll definately give the Opie Oils guy a call next time I'm looking for oil.

Thanks to all those who replied.

Toyota recently added a top-up pack to my service, containing a few wipes, a funnel and 1 litre bottle of BP Oil Semi 5W-30 in a green bottle.

I would have taken it straight back for a refund (as i didn't ask for it), but I know how difficult it is to get a good 5W-30 semi (excluding Magnatec).

If someone PMs me their e-mail address, I can send them a pic of the bottle for hosting on the site.
