Does anyone know of any companies that do brake calipers for a 2000 X-plate roadster ? (other than Toyota...)
The piston in my offside front caliper is sticking a bit. The garage say it's not too bad but then again, they're not the ones who have to drive it. It's pretty embarrassing have a car that squeaks any time I'm travelling 35mph or under !
I managed to get one (nearside front) from Nationwide Autocentre about 3 weeks ago for £185 fitted but now the offside front piston's sticking and they say that they can't get another unless they go direct to Toyota.
Obviously I'd rather avoid having to take out a new mortgage to get one from Mr T. but I've contacted every company I can find and no-one seems to make them !
I know I could go to a breakers to get a 2nd hand one but I'd rather put a new one on if possible.
Alternatively, if anyone has any tips for doing a temporary fix to my existing caliper, just until I can get another, then your advice would be greatly appreciated. s:oops:  s:oops:
speak to this lot http://www.biggred.co.uk/ Marks used them
I tried "Bigred" last week after seeing the earlier post on this forum.
At first they thought they had one but after checking the details they said that they didn't. Apparently they don't have any with a single piston, which is what I need.
I'm starting to wonder if my 2's a bit unusual in only having single piston calipers as a lot of places seem to have calipers with twin pistons on ?
Mine has single piston calipers as well (X reg).
Simon
they are all single piston calipers
they usually get confudsed with the MK2 though, did you speak to John?
I'm not the only one then ! Maybe it's just us with the X-plates.
I never imagined that it'd be so difficult to get a caliper.
I know I'm being tight with my money in not wanting to get one from Toyota but after shelling out for discs, pads and 1 caliper in the last 2 months are feeling a bit skint ! s:? :? s:?
I'm not sure who I spoke to at Bigred but I think I'll give them another call and see if I can speak to John.
he out til 4.30pm today
Well, I've been in touch with John at Biggred but still no luck unfortunately !
He thought he had one at first but then when I checked the details it turned out to ba a Mk2 caliper (1992 onwards).
Their catalogue seems to say that it's the same one for all models since '92 but I'm sure that won't be the case ?
Does anyone have any idea what the "cast no." is for the Mk3 calipers as he said he may be able to find one if I can give him that detail ?
Otherwise it looks like I'm going to have to use the last resort and go direct to Toyota !!!! (I'm already looking for change down the back of the sofas.......)
I'd be extremely grateful for any other help or options anyone can give. s:roll:  s:roll:
