I guess I am one of a bunch of people unsure as to whether to do this (2000 car, extended warranty now running out November).
My only concern is mots and engine fault lights coming on, so can someone who gutted their precats early on confirm they have done this and had not problems with 2 mots (12 months apart) and no fault light issues ?
I know everyone will say 'don't worry', but if someone has done this then I wouldn't worry !
I have been through two, no problems - don't worry!! s:wink:  s:wink:
Dont worry, whilst i've not had any MOT's yet, i've had mine out a few months and apart from a few pops i'd never have known they were removed.
Do remember here that most cars on the road don't have these pre-cats and will pass the MOT with no problems at all, we only have them to pass the American ULEV regulations which obviously mean squat over here in sunny Britain
no problems here either.
sailed striaght through apart from the 2 illegal rear tyres s:oops:  s:oops:
1999, 60000 miles and it barely tickles on emissions at MOT. No Fault lights either.
If you do have an emissions/CEL prob, its going to be something more sinister than no pre-cats.
....and if you (or anyone else) are still uncertain, I've got a spare manifold with intact precats if you ever feel the need to revert back.
Thanks Liz, Jonboy and Spit for confirming no MOT probs after gutting.
I am running out of excuses to delay fast :-) :-) :-)
I've ordered an O2 socket and some plusgas.
I have done just over 20K miles now without pre cats and no trouble as yet.
I'm pretty sure the precats make NO difference once the main cat warms up. The precats exist only to reduce startup emissions.
