Title: Help Fitting Neon Lights To The Footwells
Post by: Anonymous on July 27, 2005, 21:52
I have purchased 2 mini neon lights from speeding.co.uk, the ones that plug into the lighter....well i want to cut this plug off and fit then in the footwells to come on when the doors open, use the same connection as the overhead light.......I am not even trying this job myself and was going to put it into my local garage to do for me.......Would this be a time consuming job for them??? I am thinking money here........

I reckon it should take them an hour, tops.

Personally, I'd find out which wire does the interior light and do the connection meself. Good way to waste an afternoon.   s:wink:  s:wink:

Another option would be to buy a set with a built in switch - mine from e-bay (2 x 2 1/2" red tubes) had a switch - cost about 6 quid. Then you can easily wire into the back of the cigarette lighter and turn on and off as needed - Will be a lot cheaper way to go.

I turn mine on at night and they dont distract when driving

Note: They actually dont look as bright as this - I ran a long exposure time on my camera to take the shot!

Here is a link - these are 12" but he may have smaller for footwells:

i had a switch supplied with mine and mounted it in the dash next to the steering wheel.i just ran the wires behind the stereo and spliced them to the lighter wires.

beleive it or not thats the one missing wd i dont have, connecting into the switches wont work either as the switches go to the ECU before the light, too loody difficult eh!! try and chase where the light comes down the window screen and cut into it for the lights to come on with the door opening, i've ordered some so give me a week and i'll let you know how to connect them up

To fit into the back of the lighter is a breeze - At the back of the lighter you will find a white connector which slips off - you may need to remove the footwell plastic arm that goes from the ground up to the dash - slip off the bottom silver plastic bit - unscrew 2 screws and the black bit slips out giving you easier access!

Then pull off the white back from lighter - push the wires - black into back and red into red down into the plastic bit and tape it up so they wont pop out and reattach to back of lighter - Its a 2 minute job!! - Then just either tape switch under steering or somewhere out of sight but with easy access and your are set.!!

yes its my ipod connector.didnt want to change the sony headset so went for the cheap option of a cassette converter by belkin.
surprised at the sound quality.
the neons are a dual colour red on one side blue on the other.
the purple appearance is probably due to the flash on the camera.
