After a few nights with my head stuck in every possible cubby hole in the car Ive managed to wire in the screen and fit the in-car digital freeview receiver/ s:D :D s:D s:D :D s:D
And the verdict - Fantastic! The ariel that came with the unit from Hong Kong was crap so I went to my local car stereo place and picked up a Bosch aerial and now I'm getting a picture and all channels almost everywhere once stopped (as I should be!)
I installed the Freeview box under the seat and wired it into the stereo amplifier that I have in the rear bins. The sound kicks ass! Digital radio sounds great and the music TV channels pump out the tunes.
I recommend it to anyone especially as the price for everything was a shade under £190. The majority of that was Fedex costs to ship £50.
The rearview mirror TV works as a normal rear view mirror when unit is powered off or I can tap a button on the screen to activate the rear view camera which came with the unit. I've wired the miniature camera into the grills beside the number plate.
Apology for the picture quality I grabed a few in a hurry but with the completely wrong lense... s:oops:  s:oops:

Nice.....
and all for £190 !!! Please give more details.
I presume you replaced the rear view mirror, with the one in the picture, which obviously is also the screen.
When you say ariel, what type of ariel do you mean, a TV ariel and if so, where have you put that ? I guess it's not like a roof one..... unless your next picutre is one with a TV ariel bolted to the rear bumper, tee, hee.
But seriously, it looks really smart, good job.
Cheers

Im also extremely interested. s:) :) s:)

I've just been out testing it around the street near where I live in North London and reception is tops everywhere!
Firstly, this screen clamps onto the rear mirror, it does not replace it (but it is a mirror in its own right when powered off - but from a security point of view its great - looks like a regular mirror.
Secondly, all bought from Hong Kong off ebay - details of both stores below. TV is made by Lilliput and its picture is perfect. Dunno who makes the mini freeview box but its fast, accurate and has most of the features a home box has and it even has 5 games!

This is where the cost went up a bit - the original aerial was rubbish unless I was on top of a hill so I bought a Bosch one for £80 at my local car audio place - It's about 1 foot long (about twice as tall as the one in the ebay piccy above), it's slim and black. I've mounted it in the grated heat shield on the boot lid. It's powered with an inbuilt booster and gives the reception I am after everywhere.
I just need to get into the habit of unscrewing it when i leave the car in case some toe-rag nicks it!
BTW the piccies above dont do it justice - It looks right for the car, the mirror does not look out of place and parked up tonight with the roof down when testing it I had 3 seperate people come over to watch some of Eastenders s:lol:  s:lol: s:lol:  s:lol: It turns heads as people are not used to seeing mirror mounted screens!
Looks awsome £91 for monitor and reversing cam. Thinking of the astra that has NO rear visability at all with the roof up.
CS - I drove a little today with camera on permanently and you get a good range of view with a good depth of field and impression of distance.
Impressive mod; look forward to seeing your install sometime s:shock:  s:shock: s8) 8) s8)
hmmm looks interesting... I may well have to investigate this at some point - gonna need a bigger amp though, as I only bought a 2 channel...
Chris, hi
Check your amp - mine is a 2-channel but also has left / right audio inputs (same as you would find on a home amplifier or most AV electronics today) Thats what I used as the freeview box had audio out.
Works in Belgium too s:wink:  s:wink:
