Title: Streaky windows
Post by: Anonymous on August 23, 2005, 23:53
I'm suffering from streaky side 'windaes' (Northern Ireland-talk for windows) in my new '2.

It seems that the strips which run along the bottom of the windows are damp and cause lines and streaks on my freshly Autoglym'd windows every time I wind them down.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks

They all seem to do it unfortunately, and I don't know of a cure either  s:( :( s:(
I had a special coating put on my side windows when the paint treatment was done and although the water beads up on them as though they were waxed, it still streaks when putting them up or down!

Yeah, I get this also. But strangely only the drivers side, the passenger side is clear  s:? :? s:?

Weird...I don't remember having that issue  s:? :? s:?  If I go to a drive after washing the car, of course lowering the windows, they are just as clean as before the wash when I raise them. And there's no sign of water or damp.

I'm looking for a cure to this aswell. My current approach is to go for a drive after washing - after three down&ups of the windows to bring the moisture out and let it dry, problem is gone (until it rains  s:wink:  s:wink:  ).

I don't suffer this too much because (I believe) I keep the car in a garage and the glass is well Rain-X'd.

My other one is outside however, and this has much greater problems. One thing I have noticed is that the edge of the rubber can collect rubbish (and even green mould if left long enough) so it doesn't sweep clean. Like a worn out wiper blade.

Cleaning the rubber edge (making sure you don't take chunks out of it) makes it much better.

Thanks for the comments all.

I amaze myself by accepting a few niggles with a smile in the case of the '2, but in my wreck of a former car these would have annoyed the hell out of me.

But my last car didn't look as good or corner as well as a '2!

I have this issue I put it down to invisible beads of Auto Glym Roof protector that I spray on each time I wash that runs down the window during rain.

Mines the same; more of a problem on the drivers side. This is probably because this window is operated  more than the otherside (maybe not for Dan etc when they are pulling up alongside some lovelies on the roadside  s:wink:  s:wink:  )
